• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Dumb Question

NM Wrench

Hi all We picked up a 2014 RT-S last week from Len at Pitbull during Spyderfest. It is now back in Albuquerque NM and I need to have a VIN inspection done because it is an out of state vehicle. They have to see the VIN and Engine #'s. I have read and reread the owners manual and cannot find either. Which and how many panels do I need to remove to find these numbers? Also how do you get the rear speakers to work? Thanks from a new RT owner.

For rear speakers, go into setting on your dash, you can fade your sound more to the rear or front.
As for the numbers, I can't help you, but I know someone will respond to that concern.
Enoy your ride!

For the numbers you require - Check the Owners handbook under the Technical Section - Vehicle Identification

In my 2015 RT Handbook the information to their location is on page 158

Hope this helps

P.S There are very few Dumb questions asked on this website and you will find all the information you need just ask

The RT VIN is on the swing-arm. When I bought my used 2011 from out of state, I showed the book to the sheriff at the VIN inspection and he couldn't find it and finally gave up and passed the Spyder for registration.

But when I bought my new 2014, they said a new one with a dealer certificate didn't need the VIN inspection. So check to see if a brand new one even needs that.

Thanks

Hi thanks for your reply but the RT-S is used with 2000 miles on it and NM is hard line and wants to see the number stamped on the frame and the Engine number when it is from out of state. I am just afraid I am going to have to strip all the Tupperware off to find these numbers and ride it to the inspection station like that! Was hoping someone could help with the exact location so I only have to remove some of the Tupperware! :(

If post #3 doesn't help, you might have to bite the bullet, and have a dealer show you how to get to them. Of course, there will probably be a charge.

Look on pg. 160 of the 2014 RT Owner's Guide for the location of the engine identification number plate. Then go to pg. 48 and remove left side panel #1. It just pops out of three rubber grommets. Next, remove the black plastic vent just aft of panel #1; it has two pegs that just sit in holes at the bottom of the opening. Reach into the engine compartment and wipe off the engine identification number plate. Read the engine identification number using a small, flexible mechanic's mirror. Replace the removed vent and panel #1, remembering to snap the small plastic clip on the upper right side of the panel onto the body panel immediately above it. It's a five minute job.

Tried that unsuccessfully!

Hi I took your advice and took off that panel and the vent. On mine there is a box bolted right in that hole and cannot see the engine. I tried unbolting it but still could not find the engine number!

Yes, there is something bolted to the frame right in front of mine but the EIN plate is to the right, on what would be the backside of the engine facing rearward. I could not see what I was wiping off or see the plate without the mirror but once I moved it around a bit I could see the whole plate and read the number.

Still Stumped

Well I have spent the better of two days looking for the VIN# on my RT-S without luck. I did finally locate the engine#. Thanks for the advice in locating that. Anyone that can pinpoint the VIN# and let me in on it's location I will be very appreciative!

Here's the VIN sticker on my Spyder, on the left side of the swing arm. It's below and a bit aft of the left passenger floorboard.

Unfortunately I knew where that one is but the MVD here in NM wants to verify the Stamped VIN on the frame which is supposed to be on the right lower frame near the A arms but I sure as hell cannot find it. Until I locate it I cannot register it and it becomes an expensive garage ornament!

Have you called Len and explained your problem or consulted a local dealer? I would think that if anyone can answer your question, Pitbull can.

I believe I have found the stamped VIN. It is not easy to spot and is probably best examined with the Spyder up on some wheel ramps or jack stands. From the right side look inboard and above the upper A-arm you see what I believe is the starter, anyway it looks like the non-business end of a starter. Look a bit farther inboard and below the starter and you see a vertical L-shaped frame member. To this frame member are bolted the leading upper and lower A-arms. The VIN is stamped on the frame member and faces out to the right. On my Spyder the number is VERY HARD to read. Sorry, but I could not get my phone camera in place to get a good photo. What a PITA to read!
