• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Drone Registration - Because We All Know That People With Evil Intent Will Comply

From the FAA website's FAQ section:
"Q. Why do I need to register?
A. Federal law requires aircraft registration. Registration helps us ensure safety – for you, others on the ground, and manned aircraft. UAS pose new security and privacy challenges and must be traceable in the event of an incident. It will also help enable the return of your UAS should it be lost."

Yeah, that makes plenty of sense, because we all know that folks who currently violate the law with their drones will flock to the FAA website, register, then clearly mark their drones with their registration ID so they can be identified when they continue to break laws.

The fact that the government will get to collect $5 from every one of the millions of people who buy drones has nothing to with the money FAA will get, or the fact that law-abiding citizens are not the ones we need to worry about. gee - are the folks who came up with this idea the same folks who want more gun laws to make us "safer?":banghead:

Why only drones? Think of the "payloads" that could be put on radio controlled airplanes. You could load them up with 'evil stuff' and fly them into something, at a high rate of speed.
They aren't required to be registered.

You are correct that the law abiding public may register their drones, but the law breakers won't like the criminal gun owners.
