Driver foot positioning-ST to F3

Anyone go from a ST to an F 3 ? My question is any problem with the width of your foot positioning ?
Test rode an F 3 and noticed quite a difference in foot placement. I'm guessing the bigger motor requires the added distance in between your feet. Any comments ? Thanks.

My wife did just that. She loves the new foot position. She said that she finds it way more comfortable and she is only 5' 4" tall. She loves her F3 more than her RS & STL combined.

I had an ST and just went to a F3-L on August 25th. The positioning of your feet are totally different between the 2. With the ST your feet are back under you farther and where the bike is narrower verses the F3 where they are more in front toward the wider part of the bike. So yes it is a little wider but you get used to it real quick. Also were you able to have the spyder set up for you? That would also make a difference on how it felt to you. If you had your legs stretched way out in front that would make it feel a lot wider....if that makes sense.

I love the F3 and I am so glad I had the chance to make the switch. The cornering is so much easier, faster, and smoother. I just love everything about the F3!! It is like night and day for me. The one thing that I do want to get eventually is Lamonster's RIP floorboards. That way I will be able to move my feet into different positions on longer rides.

If you have back problems you may suffering with you feet stuck out in the birthing position. There have been post in the past on this. Good luck. And no the u fit will not slide back far enough with out modification.

I totally agree Apple! Also, I have the factory floorboards and love them. Really helps to put my feet in different positions.

i have a very bad lower back. At first the F3 bothered my back. I got the Can-Am drivers backrest and that totally took care of that. My back is better than it ever was on the ST. I'm 6'4" and have the floorboards at position 5.
Did 628 miles this weekend and my back was great!

:clap:I am also 5'4" .. Had an RS and now an ST.
hmmm good to have your feedback.
Think I shall borrow husbands F3 on our next ride, tho it may well cost us some dollars!

It was an F 3 S, rough set up only. Was offered the driver back rest but didn't take it. Guess I should have.
Noticed right away the lowered seat and spread foot position. Do have some back issues and didn't feel it was as comfortable as my STS. Ride seemed rougher also (two up).
I was considering the F 3 T or the limited. Not so sure now.
Did love the semi auto transmission and the larger 1330. Did also notice the vibration issue at certain speeds. Looks like they may have addressed that issue.
Thanks for the comments.

The rider backrest as well as Lamont's floorboards make a great deal of difference! The floorboards allow for a choice of many different positions. And makes the reach to the brake pedal so much better. Tom :spyder:

When you see the difference in the ergonomics: it's no wonder that the bikes feel so different.
And might not be perfect for everybody! nojoke

The moral to this story: Research your ride, before signing the check!

Original to F3

As one who had an early Spyder, now an F3 with Limited Floorboards, I found the initial positioning on the F3 not to my liking. My two wheel experience was always leaning forward somewhat, this allowed my hips to bend at the waist when bumps were encountered, thus not driving the force up my back, crushing spinal discs in the process. So, floorboards to position 4 and a long reach handlebar have helped, I am about 5' - 10" tall.

But, I suspect at some point I will order Lamont's "third Peg"

http://www.lamonstergarage.com/stock-caps-third-peg-trident-large-blk/

so as to have an additional position under me for a variation. I want to be able to stand up on the pegs occasionally and I suspect this may possibly be more easily accomplished with the third peg.

Another potential modification is to have the second seat peg lowered about 3 - 5" thus having a usable rear peg. On my last cross country trip, riding as much as 700 miles a day, I enjoyed the ability to have my feet move around to change weight on my tail. It is also easier to lean over with feet behind.

Now, the question is braking with feet on the alternate pegs.... this I will work on so as to actually add a cable connected brake peddle to the rear peg, or third peg. On two wheels I covered my brake lever with my first two fingers about 90% of the time for safety reasons.

I prefer the Seal Floorboards. Allows unlimited foot positioning! Also allows for standing up to stretch.

The Seal floorboards are great, and were my preferred choice, but at the moment they do not provide "unlimited foot positioning" as they are restricted to position #3, SpyderF3. I bought them, but I couldn't use them as the lip forces longer legs back too far in position #3.

This is NOT a criticism of the Seal floorboards per se, as they are very well engineered, but something like the Lamont RIP boards allow use in all 5 foot positions.
