• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Drive belt allignment and idle rpm

I have an '09 RS SM5 (450 miles)that is under warranty. My first question is about the drive belt. How should it track on the rear sprocket? My belt is currently centered on the rear sprocket, correct? Can it change from day-to-day? My other question is about idle speed (rpm). Mine idles at around 1500 rpms. That seems high to me. The other day it got up to 2000 rpms and after I blipped the throttle a couple of times it came back down to 1500 rpms.
Thanks!:dontknow:

Your belt should be closer to the inside stop, I think the spec is 1-6mm. Have you had the tension checked as the new spec is much lower than yours may be. 1500 rpm is the norm.

I keep mine 1/8 inch off the flange [almost centered]. The belt will wander a bit if you checked it when you backed up or turned into a spot,
It should go back after you driven it forward [10/15 feet].
My 08 Sm5 idles at 1350/1450 rpm, Been that way for almost 3 years now, so 1500 is not that Far off.

Good advice has already been given. The belt should be a minimum of 1 mm (1/32") off the rear sprocket flange, but no farther than 5 mm (3/16") from that flange. You must check after running forward in a straight line for several Spyder lengths.

The idle spec is 1400 rpm +/- 50 rpm. The sticking throttle situation happened a lot with Nancy's Spyder...sometimes idling at over 3500 rpm! Reflashing the ECU helped. This one puzzled my dealer and BRP. I'd contact them and see if they have a cure now...if it happens frequently. If it happens only after a hot restart, it is likely the nature of the beast, and cannot be cured.
