• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Dragon - US 129

Anyone thinking of a trip over the Dragon for the next few weeks needs to be very careful. I-40 westbound is closed due to a rockslide. This usually brings more traffic, including trucks, over 129.

Be safe ...

Latest update - I 40 rock slide is cleared up. Hopefully the traffic on the Dragon will be back to normal.

Enjoy ...

Did anybody catch the "Hell Roads" show on the Discovery Channel? I suppose that they were trying to sensationaize all of the roads on their list, but gee... Is it really THAT bad?? :dontknow:

This was two years ago on the TN side of 129. If this guy didn't see this do you think there is any chance he would see you? :yikes:

I wouldn't be surprised if that cell phone he was holding during the interview was being used when he hit the rocks.

I think his explanation was plausible. If the Police & camera crew were positioned in such a way that would draw the driver's attention away from the road, I could see why he'd hit the rocks. I would guess that shortly after that crash, the Police positioned themselves to give earlier warning to drivers. Obviously, the road would be closed as quickly as they could do it.

I finally got to see it the other day and yes, it CAN be that bad. :trike: I think it's more of "watch out for the other guy", and just drive using your brain, not your :cus:!

I did see the Hell Roads program about the Dragon. My take was that I am not going to make any effort to drive it. I am not afraid of my ability to drive the road--but seeing all the trucks, and lots of other drivers--cagers and bikers--driving above their abilities, crossing center lines, etc. Way to dangerous for my liking.

I am also lucky in that I have at least 5 "dragon type roads" that I can drive on any time--and they are all within 50 miles of my location.
