• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

DPS went south...

sinkhole

Well, after 5700 miles with no steering issues, my steering finally started acting up. I was out for a ride yesterday doing around 65 when all of a sudden I felt a twitch. At first, I thought it might have been a crosswind, but the wind was too light for that. I then realized that the dreaded DPS bug had struck. As I said, I have had no problems up until yesterday, and when it happened, it scared me until I realized what it was.
My question is: Does anyone know if disconnecting the power steering unit is possible, so that I could drive the RT safely to the dealers... and if so, how?

:helpsmilie:

My suggestion would be to find you a parking lot and do a few figure eights in the parking lot lock to lock on the bars. I have a buddy that this happened to and that pretty much fixed the problem. He's on the list for a new DPS but he's been riding it several thousand miles after doing that and it seems to be fine.

Lamont, thanks for the tip. I'll let you know how things go. I'm not in the queue at the dealers, so this may get me by until I can arrange a date.

Lamont, I did about a dozen figure eights and your trick seems to have worked. Thanks!
The entry into the right hand lobe on the first few felt stiff as I approached the lock. After that things smoothed out and a 15 mile ride up to 75 mph went without a hitch. I'll be interesting to see how long the "fix" lasts, but it should be enough to get me to the dealer's... and if the bug rears it's ugly head again, I'll know what to do. :2thumbs:

Call your dealer and get your Spyder in the queue! As more folks sign up, the repair dates will continue to shrink into the distance...

Unfortunately here in Alabama there is a shortage of dealers and DPS units. My RT-S finally got done last week after waiting in the line for months.

Spyders that exhibit steering problems should have the recall done right away. Your dealer should be able to pull some strings in an emergency. Have them explain the situation to BRP. If that fails, contact Carlo for assistance. If the dealer refuses to put you in the queue, despite a steering failure...find a new dealer!

dps...

I'm in the queue now, but don't expect to rotate to the top of the list until sometime in January at the earliest.
I suspect that the fix Lamont recommended must reset, or recalibrate limit switches in the unit, because my steering is acting normal again. Whatever it does... this is a worthwhile proceedure (in an emergency) for anyone experiencing these steering glitches.

Was on the highway today ryding at about 80 mph when all of a sudden the steering jerked hard to the left and took me partially into the lane next to me. :yikes: Talk about a scare! Seem to do it every 5-10 seconds and had to struggle with it a bit to stay in my lane. Jumped on the frontage road and took it back home at a slower pace. I'll try the figure 8's in a parking lot tonight. Dealership service dept. will be open tomorrow and I will ask if they can move me up on the waiting list for the new DPS (been about 2 months now). My heart is still racing!

Quick question... Seeing that this "Might" have happened to another RT I have to wonder... Have you taken a good look at all the nuts to the suspension components? Maybe just one of the parts has come loose?? (I doubt it, just being curious)
