There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. DPS failure

incy

New member
Hi, I was wandering if I could get some information regarding the recall dps unit replacement. I have a 2008 rs spyder premier edition 970 (Australia) manual transmission

My dps unit was apparently replaced in 02/2012 as per the recall, I never received any paperwork to say it was done however the dealer said it was done, however when i took it to the new dealer they advised the system showed that 2 of the other recalls had not. I am a little concerned as I was told in November when my bike had its 30k service by the old dealer all updates / recalls had been done.

Since November I have done about 700km and the dps failure light and check engine light came on showing the following errors P0551, P0552 and P0553. however it has not gone into limp mode...rides great except the dps has been disabled

I decided to take my spyder to another dealer (new dealer) as everytime it goes in for a service at the old dealer something goes wrong....apparently coincidence.

The new dealer has advised my DPS unit has failed and it will be $2800.00 approx. to repair. This I find disturbing as my spyder had done over 20 000km on the old faulty DPS unit with no issues yet after the recall and having it updated with the new improved DPS it has failed after doing 10 000km.

what I am asking is

is it normal life expectancy 3yrs 10000km (reason for 3 years is I broke both my ankles and was unable to ride for about 18months.) as if that is the case it is going to be a very costly repair every year or two now that I can ride again

is there a way to check if the DPS unit was actually replaced and not just claimed by the old dealer (as it seems they have said one thing before and I have since found out the opposite)

does anyone have or know a link to a video to show where to find the dps so I can check the serial number and compare it to the original serial number as per the buds report and how to replace the dps unit so I can do it myself. (am considering ordering the part from US as the part in Australia is about $2300

my spyder has never been any different to ride since new the dps has always been temperamental sometime would work sometimes it would, even after it was replaced as part of the recall. this was always mention to the old dealer at services. however they said it was normal even after my husband actually showed them how it would not work....there response was oh and that was it....had no answer.

and any other suggestions would also be greatly appreciated

unfortunately I have very little faith in the Australian dealerships as they have very little experience, and very few dealerships.

thanks jane

DPS...

the location is behind the frunk. Connected to the steering at the bottom. Removing the frunk (easy to do on the GS) will give you access and you can grease the steering joints while there. As to finding if the dps was changed the new part # 219800295 if different may not have been changed. The old number was #709400544. Cheapcycleparts.com has them for $1,186.99 which will be cheaper than brp but sometimes you can find them on ebay etc...hope this helps some good luck....
