• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Down shifting on an SE5

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. I have the 2012 RSS SE5 (green/black). I was driving in a straight shot. When I shifted to 3rd gear the oil light came on and the spyder died. It never down shifted. The spyder would not start for about 5 mins. Finally it started. I cant remember now if it down shifted on its own or if I did it manually. I took it to the dealer so they could the codes and found nothing wrong. About a week later as I was slowing down it didnt downshift automaticlly.

Was wondering if anyone has heard or had this problem?

I don't have an answer but I've read on here if you're to far out on an oil change or if your oil is beginning to break down it could cause failure to down shift. Others will be along that will lead you in the right direction.

Have you checked your oil level? I have read that some have issues like this if the oil level isnt correct. Also, you can pull the codes yourself. Push in the mode & select buttons and hold them in, then push the turn signal switch straight in. Code should pop up on the led screen.

:agree: The Rotax engines are "sensitive"... They need he right amount of "old dinosaur" coursing through them to be happy!

were you on flat ground or up hill or down hill? This is crazy..but if the Spyder is just a little low on oil it will slow down and sputter and/or not want to down shift....the oil sensor could be sticking...I never go anywhere without a quart of oil...it may only take a small amout to correct things....but I have it...I also have found that the Spyder likes to downshift all by itself......I only downshift if in a situation....

Oil oil oil

Had similar problems early on with Ms Spyder.. Spyders like their oil and after my tech explained how the oil works versus oil in my pickup I now check her faithfully.. and she is a happy camper. So even though my personal position is that to check the oil is a pain in butt I do it faithfully because it keeps her happy. Recommend as others have said that you do it after your ride, engine is good and warm and gives it more accurate read.. so happy dipping your stick time!!
