• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

do you wear ear plugs when not wearing a helmet?

I always wear a helmet and often wear ear plugs when ryding. They seem to lessen fatigue on long mileage days.

I always wear them, even when riding the 13 miles to work. It's way better than the alternative...tinnitus later on in life. nojoke

On longer trips I wear noise canceling earbuds hooked to my I-Pod, that way I get music when I want it and ear plug-type silence when I don't.

Ear plugs are a good idea. I don't remember the DB level of wind when riding with your ears exposed, but remember reading some time ago that it was a lot higher than I thought it was... enough to be concerned about hearing loss.

Besides, it seems if someone is prone to ear-infections, they help out some for that also.

i have enough hearing loss that i always wear plugs. decent prescription plugs from beltone. got great plugs from Big Ear at spyderfest, both standard and stereo. the stereo plugs let me hear tunes at low volume, and don't hear wind/motor noise at all. couldn't be happier. these plugs also work quite well for shooting.

sorry, didn't really answer the question.
-always wear plugs
-always wear helmet. respect those that don't, but i read CTs at a trauma center, and see what happens to those that choose not to.

I have tinitus and hearing loss. Twenty years in the Air Force and twenty three working on equipment in all kinds of high noise areas. I wear ear plugs when I wear my half helmets. My 3/4 helmet is pretty quiet. I also wear them when cutting grass, using my table and circular saws etc. Hey Mickey, how ya doin'.

I wear a modular elmet that's supposed to be amung the quietest, but find traffic, wind noise and the engine under load are just plain too load without ear plugs. I have a headset in my helmet and the music can crank pretty load even with the plugs, but I use the sound isolation of the plugs to keep things comfortably quiet, so I can keep my music at a comfortable level, hear the engine well enough to shift and hear the traffic enough to be safe. I find I can crack the visor open a bit too without things getting to load and get some good ventilation too. I agree with the above posts. there's much less fatigue with noise levels kept low.

I use disposable foam plugs, nice and clean. I dont like them in my ears but are much better than the alternative (which I already suffer from....tinnitus). I find that with no protection my hearing is affected for some five six hours after the ride where i struggle to hear people. Thinking of custom made plugs but are expensive and tend to "dislodge" when you push the helmet over your ears and there is nothing worse that a earplug that does not sit well, it amplifies the noise. We use helmet mounted speakers and can still hear conversation and music with the plugs.

Modular helmet here that seals up pretty sight around my flaps... No earbuds are needed, but I'm thinking about starting to wear them all of the time just to keep the Missus out! :roflblack:

Bob, You are incorrigible! Your Missus must be a Saint!

Added Robobracket from MadStad and their 20" shield" to my RSS and the noise level is now quieter than any plugs I tryed before (foam, custom, etc...)
This setup insured I could control the wind noise before it gets to my helmet.

:ohyea:

I wear a half helmet and had custom ear plugs made a few years ago at the motorcycle show we have here every year. 80 dollars is pretty cheap insurance in my books. I wear them when im working on my stone sculptures they are in my ears before I even make it into the studio.
