• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Do dealers have trade in age limits?

I'm curious to hear any experiences that you have had regarding trade-ins and vehicle age. Have any encountered this, where the dealer would not take your Spyder in as trade because of vehicle age? If so, what was their age limit?

They may take it, but they may not give anywhere near book value for it. They really don't like used stuff unless it's showroom quality, looks and shape! Some will give you a small warranty when you buy a used machine and if they don't know your bike, they are sticking their neck out. Sooooo, don't be surprised if they bock on taking your rig!

Dealers can do whatever they want for trade-ins. They may have general policies. But typically, it operates on a deal by deal basis. Unfortunately, you can't believe everything you hear from a dealership as they have a bad habit of making things up on the fly.

You will always get more for your vehicle selling it yourself. Spring and early summer will be your sweet spot. You will get your lowest value from now until around April of next year.

No matter how good the trade-in deal sounds. They are getting you coming and going. The amount of the 'Get' depends on the deal you make. This is why they always want to know if you have a trade-in before negotiation starts. Because if you settled on a straight up deal, you would then be able to calculate what you were really getting for your trade-in. And they don't want you to know how big a hit you are taking.

I think most any dealer will give you something for any year trade in. That doesn't mean they will sell it themselves. Just like in the automobile industry, your trade-in may be wholesaled to someone else. For the most part, dealers really don't want used inventory for a variety of reasons. Knowing that, it's always best to sell it yourself, even if you have to lower your value expectations a bit.

Years ago I had a good relationship with a dealer. One of the salesmen and I rode enduros together. When I bought a new bike the dealership took my ride on consignment because the salesmen knew my machine, and that I kept in good shape. At the dealership, it got a lot of exposure, more than I could give it, and sold quickly.
