Resale value from what I have seen, seems to be very high up here.
So what about in your Neck of the Forest? Buy new or used?
I prefer new to used, but that's just me. YMMV

The writer seems to expect the resale price to cover the cost of his $5000 in upgrades. Aftermarket add ons NEVER bring much in resale value, sometimes take away from it. Same is true for ALL bikes and most cars.

If he got enough to cover the balance of his (likely zero down) loan after a year of ownership, he did pretty well. MUCH better than a Harley or most cars.

Just sour grapes that he had to sell it if you ask me.

He said he is selling it 6 months later , common sense dictates with any motor vehicle it looses a substantial amount the first year SUCKS but true but thats the case with just about every vehicle you buy. If you buy a new car they sell a program called gap insurance this is just for the fact if you total your vehicle in the plan aloted time it covers the loss for depreciation that your gonna see.

I have bought my spyder for the long haul and was paid in full when I purchased it but I keep a vehicle for 10 plus years and the bike will be no different. If your happy with your bike don't worry about stupid reviews like this, if your looking to buy a vehicle and 6 months later sell it and break even count yourself lucky. Enjoy your ride and have fun thats why I bought mine.

Also save your old parts and take your farkles off if you resell it and sell them separate, you can make some of your money back, farkles dont add value if you trade it in. Selling it outright may help ya some.

I actually think he wrote a spot on review. As a long time motorcyclist, snowmobiler and atv rider, I agree with his input on how it handles. It is just like riding a good sled on a well groomed trail, get your weight a little forward and nail it. On a nice day, riding solo, with out too much luggage, I too would still rather take the bike. But bring my wife, add some iffy weather, make it a 3 or 4 day ride and viola you can't beat an RT. Now if I could just get the dog to want to ride with me on it....

We looked at everything used available, and then bought new for $4000 more. We gained an extra gear, an extra cylinder, and lost the heat issue.

I thought the review mostly on. I have not lifted a front wheel in over 100,000 miles of driving :spyder2:'s. I am no Wuss either.

RE: Loss of value. Welcome to the club. Accessories count for 50% to 10% if you are lucky. Some places they count for zero.

I had the same experience with my 2008 GS with over $6K of accessories. I still traded because I wanted the Premier RTS.

Buying any vehicle with little or no down payment is not a good move--IMO. If you drive it off the lot, you will be "upside down" from the get go. Two to three years before you become positive, in most cases. The guy got what he bargained for on the financing part.

Yes, his Spyder experience was great, then why the sale? Was all that I disliked.

You have to make a bike your own... its going to cost you, but a decent set of shocks, adjustments here and there and you'll have a bike custom made for you... and the wife, luggage, dog and kitchen sink!!

Sorry he had such a bad selling experience. Apparently his accolades for the spyder were short cause it was not his choice for comuting. Wonder how well he would have done selling the triumph..but he did get it right about the spyders...thanks and good luck to him..!! :thumbup:

One thing many people do not think about when selling a vehicle. How much of that out the door pricewas for sales tax when you bought it.

One of the reasons I don't buy new vehicles. I'd rather someone else take that drive off the lot depreciation. If you're keeping it for the long haul, buy new, if you're someone that switches machines often, grab used and save the pain.

As someone else noted, at trade-in, farkles are worth zero. For private sale, they can be worth something but many potential buyers are first sorting on price, and we like to do our own farkleizing.

I've had a ball riding it, feel it was worth every penny I paid, and will continue to ride it until one or the other of us wears out. If I last longer than the Spyder, I'll buy another one! :yes:

We feel the same way. And if it outlasts us, let our kids decided whether to keep paying or let it go!
