• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Deer Smack

Never hit a deer, and hope I never do. Man, it appeared fast!!! Not exactly much one can do about it.

I don't know about that. I watched it several times and it looks like the deer was just standing there and decided to run out at the last minute. I don't see the deer coming out from behind the house at all. If the rider had seen the deer standing so close to the side of the road I'd say he'd have slowed way down. Maybe with the sun low and the deer blending in he just didn't see it until it stated to move.

Glad he looks ok. Bad deal no matter how you look at it.

You're right Baja Ron. I just looked at it again. There was some glare on my computer screen. I tilted it to get a better view. The deer was right there on the side of the road. Then it decided to run across just as the motorcycle came up to it. Maybe if they had been going a bit slower, or just SEEing better the crash could have been avoided. Deer are bad enough. But those antlers can be sharp and deadly in their own right.

A lot of times deer will come out of nowhere and you really don't have any chance at all. But I'd say this guy just missed his chance to avoid this one. But you'd have to be inside his helmet to know how hard it was to see that deer. I sure didn't see it the 1st time until it was too late.

20/20 hindsight is always very good!

Wearing the correct attire helped. I noticed he was wearing clothing that helped when he went down. You have to watch the clip a couple of times to "see" the deer before he hits him. Looked like the ryder was okay, but the deer???

Looks like a hard way to get venison for dinner to me. HWY 28 near Franklin has a lot of them during the season and they come off the hill,
where you cant see them until they are on top of you.

Good ryder........ Anyone notice that the Ryder was reacting before the impact? He moved his bike the the left as if he saw the Deer and thought it would be safer for him to give more room... Then bang. Two broken ribs later...

Follow up

I did here from someone who knows him that the deer did run off after a short staggar. They can be in front so fast. And dont forget the rut starts in a month or two depending on where you live and its even worse then. Deer make stupid decisions during the rut...........

OMG that was a full grown BIG BUCK!!!! the one I hit was just out of spots!! Either way it's a bummer!!! Why I carry a small gun in my stuff so if I hit another one (GOD forbid please),I can put it out of it's misery. That's a really bad hit on his part. Hope he heals up ok. Makes me think Maybe I should be wearing my Can Am pants and jacket ALL the time. (BUT it's HOT OUT THERE!!! and hot flashes toboot don't make for a fun ryde!!!:roflblack:)

I have looked at the Flir infrared camera and am still considering it. A bit of money but might be the best accessory I ever add.

A Real Wake Up Call

OUCH !!! According to the screen in right corner of contour GPS info he hit that deer at just over 79KPH or just under 50MPH. His riding gear saved him from more serious injuries. Another lesson learned and a wake up call for others" Dress for the fall and not for the ride" or always wear your safety gear.

Glad the guy walked away from the accident.

Glad to see the guy walked away from the accident. That's amazing in itself. And we don't know what the guy was looking at just before he saw the deer. In his rear view mirrors? His speedometer / Tach? Those deer really blend in with the background. Especially when they are not moving.

I hit a deer two weeks ago.

I go to work at 5am and ride thru the country about 40mph and hit a deer on my spyder RT. I broke the left mirror. The deer left an antler on the road. That evening my wife went back up there and the deer was dead in the ditch. The video brought back back my feelings that morning and what I saw that morning. I could have petted him. He came from the growth about 5 foot tall. I had less then a second to respond. hit my brake but hit him square on. Glad the rider was OK.
