Day eight started out on a great note, the temperature was a brisk 49 degrees but the sun was shining and the air was crystal clear. The ride from White Horse to Destruction Bay was once again very beautiful and we had the road to ourselves; coming down the hill towards the bay Lake Kulane was spectacular and seemed to go on forever. On the way there we had previously stopped for gas at Otter Falls and Haines Junction but we didn't stay long enough at either place to do much of anything. After Destruction Bay, akspyderman was right on, the road really does have the whoop de dos its just like a roller coaster with divits(big potholes). Russ on his wing could dodge most of them but on the Spyder with a trailer in tow I had trouble getting through the pothole minefield with so many wheels to catch a hole( and I did).About 20 mile out from Destruction Bay the Yukon Highway Department had numerous crews repairing about 20 plus miles of highway; one place in particular was a 2 mile stretch where they had to lead you through with a pilot vehicle and we thought we were fortunate to be right behind said vehicle as there would be minimal dust and there was. The reason there was minimal dust was that right in front of the pilot vehicle was a water tanker dumping a deluge of water right in front of us. Russ had a great time with his wing playing slip and slide through the goo while I kicked up enough mud that my trailer went from orbital blue to mud brown( and it was really caked on.) Had some great conversations with the students that were manning some of these "outposts" for the summer months(although they have yet to have summer here). Also met up with a Harley rider that we keep crossing paths with and he showed us his videos taken with his helmet camera, I want one, I need one(hope my wife is reading this); watching his video was like being on the bike, awesome. Finally arrived in Beaver Creek staying at the Westmark Hotel very nice except: No A/C, No internet, No Phone in room; we're roughing it again( the people are great though.) I guess slowing down so much to miss all the potholes worked great to increase my mileage to 32.5mph (Russ was in the mid 40s). Beautiful scenry but no wild life today. Tomorrow we enter Alaska and go on to Fairbanks and ???? before heading to Ankorage and meeting akspyderman. Tomorrow.
