• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Dancing Spyder & Gel Seat Insert

No more Dancing Spyder! Many thanks to Joe and Ann Meyer at Squared Away for the laser alignment they performed over this past holiday weekend. Made the ride to Las Vegas from San Diego to get the alignment done and then turned it into a 3 day weekend away for the Missus and I. My front wheels were "crabbed inward" on both sides. This explained the "battle" that I would sometimes feel going around a curve in the road. The bike seemed to first follow one front wheel and then suddenly jump to the line being pointed to by the other front wheel. The alignment took care of this. I am also running Bajaron swaybar and Doc Humphrey's nuts (2 in each front spring) and find that 22 lbs. in the front tires works best for our two up riding. Those mods together with about 1500 miles of Spyder riding to unlearn the 40+ years of two wheel riding have finally made it all come together. I don't believe there is any one thing that is the ticket but rather a combination of all. And what works best for one individual may not be the best for the next person. We each need to find our own combination.

This 400 mile ride each way was also a test for the new Gel insert that I installed into the seat. It was a Gel and memory foam "sandwich" that I ordered from Motorcycle Dave (a sponsor on this forum). It really wasn't all that bad to remove staples, cut out a "hole" for the Gel/foam sandwich to fit down into, glue down some headliner material to "blend in" where the gel went and the original foam areas (Dave also supplied that material) and then staple the cover back on using a $22 Harbor Freight pneumatic staple gun. Dave will also go to great lengths to answer any questions you might have. He spent considerable time over the telephone with me.

The seat was a 2013 BRP Comfort Seat (driver position further to the rear, no backrest option slot) that I purchased from another forum member. The stock seat for me was 50 miles maximum and butt burn would begin. With the Comfort Seat, my seating position was much better (better leg room) but I would still get the butt burn within 50 - 60 miles to the point where I needed to get off of the bike. Would also feel discomfort the following day. The gel/foam insert didn't make for a "super comfy" experience but it did make it OK. I was able to do the 400 miles up and back with only mild discomfort but that may be because I haven't done any real distance in a while. A gas stop and walk around for 5 minutes, ready to go again. Granted, the 107 degrees we hit in Palm Desert on the way home didn't exactly add to the comfort level. Definitely a success from a budget standpoint and a viable option to try before going to an aftermarket seat. I also had Russell Meyer Day Long seats on my past two BMW's and loved those seats but this seems to be working for us on the Spyder.

Joe and Ann do a very good job. One of ours was messed up pretty bad and the difference was night and day.

We are going to meet up again, and buy them a nice dinner in Vegas soon.

Dave has a fine line of products and he is very gracious with his time to help you get the installation right. I also bought the gel pad memory foam combo from him and he spent quite abit of time helping me also and on a Saturday besides. If you need bluetooth help or seat help go to Dave

We are in El Cajon just a few miles from Mt. Helix so pretty much in your backyard. Yes, we took all of the back roads coming home through the Mojave Preserve, Amboy and Palm Desert, Palms to Pines highway to Anza and through Warner Springs. Nice back road riding but hot any way you look at it. I finally gave up and put on my evaporative vest in Twenty Nine Palms and that made for a completely different experience from there to home. Of course, on the trip out on Friday, going over the mountains East of San Diego toward Blythe gave us temperatures down to 55. The wife actually turned on her heated liner during the first hour. El Centro bumped it back up to the low 90's and it was pretty much somewhere over 90 from there on for the whole weekend. Even on Mount Charleston on the West side of Vegas, where there is a ski resort, I think it was still in the mid 80's at the 7700 foot level.

Now, let me get this straight. BPR is selling these costly bikes that are NOT properly aligned in the first place? I am not sure I want to buy one after all. Any thoughts on this issue?

The alignment issue is one that gets a lot of debate on this forum as well as others. It is indeed a point of contention to many buyers but there are also many buyers who never have the aftermarket laser alignment done and are perfectly happy with their machine. It is not a very expensive process. The problem is finding someone in your area that is properly set up with the correct equipment. We all hope that some day soon the dealers themselves will have the required equipment and will perform the procedure on all new bikes. In the meantime, search the forum for "Laser Alignment" and you will have plenty of reading.

It is not a very expensive process. The problem is finding someone in your area that is properly set up with the correct equipment. We all hope that some day soon the dealers themselves will have the required equipment and will perform the procedure on all new bikes. In the meantime, search the forum for "Laser Alignment" and you will have plenty of reading.

I've had my :f_spider: for exactly 100 days today and in a little over 7,000 miles have not felt any symptoms that would lead me to believe it's out of alignment. It's possible that it's slightly out of alignment, but not enough to pull one way or the other or affect the handling in any way. With that said, I would still like to have it checked, and if it is slightly off, have it corrected. Unfortunately, the people who are probably the best laser aligners in the business, Squared Away, are 350 miles away from me in Las Vegas.

Some of the dealers are beginning to purchase the laser alignment equipment. It's a costly investment for them, and not required by BRP. Personally, I think it should be a requirement for the amount of money they sell these machines for. Ride Now stores in Arizona have the equipment now, and I believe my dealer in Prescott Valley just made the purchase. I hope the day comes that all dealers are required to do laser alignments. I doubt that will happen, but I can only hope.

I'm new here but not new to the alignment business. As I understand it all that is adjustable is the toe in and camber and caster are built in. There are a couple other angles involved but are engineered in.
Adjusting toe in can be done without the use of a laser but I assume the laser makes it slightly easier and allows the shop to charge more money. It doesn't matter what you use to measure it as long as the toe in is set to spec. Years ago we scribed the tires and used a tape measure and before radial tires a scuff gauge was very accurate. Just my thoughts.
