Corbin smuggler trunk with BRP bags question

I have searched trying to find an answer to this. I have the corbin saddle and the BRP Givi hard bags installed. I would like to get the Corbin smuggler trunk but have read that it might not fit because of the rear lights relocation. Some have said there is a note on the corbin site saying this but I can't find it. I have also seen other posts that say they have both. Does anyone know if the smuggler trunk will work on a 2011 rss with the BRB bags?

thanks

The Corbin people should be able to answer your question. I had the "other" trunk with my Givi bags. The moving of the tail lights was not a problem on that unit. I did the installation myself.

I spoke to them on friday but didn't get very far. First they told me they couldn't colour match it (I have the Orange/black 2011 rss) so I would have to have it painted myself. Then I was told it would cost $266 for freight (Perhaps they don't know that Montreal is in Canada, maybe they thought I said Mongolia). By the time I got the quote from them it was too late to call back so I will Monday.

I don't think you'll have a problem with it working with the BRP saddlebags. I'm also pretty sure it will NOT work with the BRP sport rack.

Rather than try and match the orange, I'd just get it in black and maybe add some thin pinstripes.

Thanks for the info. Buddy of mine has sort of convinced me not to get it. I sometimes take camera gear (tripod, hiking staff etc) and tie it on the back seat. He figure I should look for a small case or even a bag as I do have the BRP sport rack on it. Still get another month or 2 of winter so I have time to figure it out.

Bags attach to the rear seat nicely. A hard case might be more trouble. Consider one of the completely water proof bags like the Helen2Wheels or SealLine bags. They work nicely, secured to the grab bars with Helen2Wheels cargo straps, ROKStraps, or something similar.

The Corbin shipping is very hefty. But the mdse. is packed really, really, good. Prepare for a half hour or so to get the box open if you go with it.

I also decided against it-- as cool as they look-- for 3 reasons:

1. Price. Dang!
2. Seen people with rusted hardware on them.
3. If I have that on the seat, then giving the occasional random person a ride can't happen-- and with my luck I'd have the smuggler on when I ran across - oh -- I don't know-- Salma Hayec when she wanted a ride! ;)

I used to have a Bikers Friend bag that worked really well on the Spyder : http://www.bikersfriend.com/

Feel the same way. If I put the smuggler on I know I would meet Megan Fox with her car broken down. I have a couple of small bags or I will get the BRP one that fits on the rack.

I have this setup on my spyder and the smuggler trunk fits fine. The only problem I had was, the back of the trunk rests a little on the rear tail piece on the spyder and this will cause the paint finish to wear some in that area.

The note on the brp bags not working right are for the Corbin topbox not the smugglers trunk. Ask me how I know! I was the one that alerted them to the issue.

The topbox flares out right into the path of the brp saddlebag mount and signal relocators. I eventually got a used set of Corbin sidebags and had everything refinished to take out the gouges in the topbox.

Thanks for all the info. vtrider - It does look good. If they weren't such a ripoff for shipping I might consider it even though I would have to paint it myself but $266 to ship it to Montreal is crazy. A friend is shipping a Tacoma pickup from Nanaimo BC (west coast) to Montreal for $1500. I just got a 45lb UPS for my computer shipped from California to here for under $30.

I also have the Orange Alloy and Matte Black finish and the Orange Alloy panels are hard to come about for the R35/V35 GIVI bags, but Mosites Motorsports does carry them. I bought mine on eBay from Mosites about 4 weeks ago they had 43 of this color in stock at their warehouse they order from. Here's the link I ordered from on ebay. CAN-AM SPYDER R-35 SADDLE BAG KIT ALLOY ORANGE #219400293 ACCESSORIES AND PARTS.

Now, as far as the Corbin Smuggler goes....way too expensive and seems to be the only thing out there with no alternative. Thats what made me start building my own mono cowl/storage unit. Here's a link to my thread that myself and other Spyder riders who wanted something different started put our two cents together on what we thought would make a sensible mono cowl/storage unit. Here's the link to that thread if you like to read and see its progress: Would anyone like a BRP Mono Cowl with storage and size like Corbin Smuggler? I like the Corbin look also, and it does compliment the bike with the GIVI bags, but as I said, it's by far one of the more costly additions you can make on the GS/RS and RS-S Spyder's. My unit will not require the seat change and will be removable in a matter of two snaps.

Now for the GIVI bags I used the Givi Tubular Sidecase Racks PLX770 (Can-Am Spyder Roadster) for GIVI V35 sidecases listed at www. twistedtrottle.com. The GIVI V35 sidecases are the same as those sold by BRP. The difference in these two sidecase mounting racks are the ones direct from GIVI that I ordered fit a lot more snug to the Spyders body. I am also able to retain my rear signals in their original position by using a Dennis Kirk K & S Black LED Mini-Stalk Universal Turn Signals for $69 Dennis Kirk https://www.denniskirk.com/k-and-s/universal-mini-stalk-turn-signal-black-w-led.p211382.prd. When mounted they look just like the stock ones but fit closer to the body aloowing room for the bags to fit. Lastly buying it direct from GIVI is also a lot cheaper than buying the BRP unit. If you have any question on how I set this up, just pm me.

Good Luck,

Cole
