Considering my first RT

Wire, Thanks for taking the time to compose your message and I did find it full of informative details. I decided to stay on two wheels and going to pursue a Goldwing. After demo riding everything from the Ultra Harley to the Spyder, I found the Goldwing the only bike that speaks to me.

The flat 6 in a wing is vastly superior for touring in character and torque than a Rotax engine. The only issue I had with my GL1800 was the foot position and that was with boards, heel/toe shifter and highway pegs. Just not enough room to be REALLY comfy foot-wise; otherwise comfort was A1. The stock shield on a GL1800 plays havoc as far as turbulance on the passenger and I fixed this with Baker Mirror Wings and a KuryAkyn airfoil gizmo that fit behind the passenger backrest. The wing had adequate room and it was easy to pile up miles safely without fear of this or that being an issue. I traded a 2006 GL1800 for a 97 GL1500 Roadsmith trike; this trike had 10 gal fuel capacity (2 tanks) and running boards and handled great after getting the suspension set up properly. It had 4 degrees rake on the front end so steering wasn't tiring. Loved that trike BUT it was getting long in the tooth and I wanted something newer; hence the Spyder (2010). I have owned EVERY major touring bike on the market and perhaps have the softest heart for the Kaw Voyager XII... it was comfortable and felt like a bike. The new Voyager was on my short list but Kaw's attempt to have a 20 inch seat height made a V in the seat the made me uncomfortable on a test ride. I was disappointed. When you go in to look at the wing, check out the CTX1300... that bike intrigues me

Interesting back ground with bikes you have! I have always been intrigued with the Original Voyager. I wish Kawasaki stayed with that platform and modernized it. I just sold my 2012 Voyager and rode it on a cross country ride in July. 7,300 miles and it performed well. Just didnt like the heat on right leg, hated the linked brakes as it was too intrusive and difficult to smoothly modulate. Finally, never could find a comfortable suspension setting.

The CTX1300 does look cool. I think I would LOVE that engine!!!! I just require a real full blown touring rig as I do lots of touring vacations and like the real cruise control, electronic integration and luggage capacity.

I have found my next Wing. Its a 2012 Level 3 with 4,000 miles on it. Has CB, trunk spoiler and fog lights. Warranty through 2020 is great too!!

I cannot thank all the Spyder peeps on here answer my questions. What a great group!

Greetings from Florida.

For the first time in nearly 20 years my wife is considering joining me on the road as a passenger on a Spyder RT. I have demo rode the older V-Twin model but never the new Triple.

I intend on taking one for a Demo ride before I pull the trigger and have two that I'm looking at. Which is the better deal?

New 2015 RT(Base) SM6 in black for $18,000 plus tax and tag.

2014 RT Limited SE6 in Black with 600 miles for $20,000 plus tax and tag. Warranty through 8/2017

Welcome to the best spyder site that there is.
I would buy the 2014 Rt Limited. The air ride that it comes with is awesome and the new GPS is great for traveling. You will love the new motor and SE6 transmission. I have a new 2015 RT Limited and love it.

have dealer or someone who rides a spyder take ur wife for a ride before u buy--its not like riding pillion on a 2 wheeler--its alot of work--centrifical force is very strong in the back--i hate it

Lesa, after my demo ride I decided to go with a Goldwing. I just prefer the two wheel dynamics. I do however and see what some people would love the spyder. Just not for me yet.

2014 Limited with 600 Miles

I didn't like the SE, but could live with it. Good luck.

The 2014 is the far better deal in my view. 600 miles is the same as zero a few months from now, the bikes are the same, and having the extras and the SE transmission is worth far more than $2000.

I own a 2014RTS-SE6 in cognac..............( I have 9,989 miles ) and I love it, because it has the 1330 ace engine, and all the extras, plus you have the power even riding 2-up.

My first spyder was a 2012RTS-SE5 ( 998 engine) what a difference between the 2 machines.

I would go for the RT with the warranty, great gas mileage( after the break-in) less trips to the dealership, quiter engine. Good luck! Let us know which spyder you choose.

Deanna
