• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Considering a Ryker purchase - any feedback?

My son is getting rid of his Indian and wants to go to three wheels. He is looking at Rykers. I know nothing about them. What are the pros and cons?:popcorn:

Based on site reviews: A great "entry level" machine. For around $11K you can get a brand new one. They do not have the same ameneties as RT or F3. They have a CVT tranny...no shifting, just put it in gear and go. Most that buy them like the "fun" factor of the ride.

Only your son can decide if the Ryker will suit him. Try to do a test ride from a dealer. :yes:

I think the Ryker is just around town or short distance motorcycle. Don't think it would be very comfortable on a long ride, that's just my opinion. Only your son would know what kind of motorcycle he would be best suited for. The RT and F3 are more for touring or longer rides. Like stated, a test ride would probably help him make a decision on which one best suit his needs.

~~~I bought a Ryker Rally new, March 2020. He’ll have a blast with it. I know I have with mine. That said,I’m getting closer to trading it in for a Spyder, probably an RT but I’ve been wanting a Spyder before I bought the Rally
As far as pros and cons go I think that might be a subjective list. The aftermarket IMO has addressed most if not all of the Ryker short comings. The Ryker is a bare bones machine and that’s what most that own them like about them. Really, I can’t think of any cons regarding my 15 months of experience with the Rally, it has all the power you could want but if you want more, a stage 2 flash along with aftermarket exhaust will take care of that. If you want more wind protection, a windscreen will keep the freeway and interstate breezes at bay. I’m not wanting to go to a Spyder because of any preconceived con, I’d just like to experience one
Your son already knows there is a 600cc engine and a 900cc version. I’d imagine he has his mind made up there. That said, before I bought the Rally I rode all three models and felt I’d be happy with any one of them. I’ve changed my position there since then feeling the 900cc model for me was the right choice. I suppose you could call the MPG most experience with the Rykers a con, but OTOH I’ve never really experienced too many two wheelers that got good fuel mileage, and on that topic, the Honda Helix and the Honda Elite I owned (both had the same drivetrain) were quite frugal ridden accordingly
All that said, if you spend some time on the Ryker forum here you will read more than a few owners that aren’t happy with the handling at speed. I can’t say the same about mine. My Rally rides like its on rails, so to speak but then IMO, the Rally model has the better suspension components that help to keep it planted at speed. I remember riding the base model 600 and it was twitchy at freeway speeds yet that could have been the way the machine I rode was set up. This is just my opinion but my suggestion for your son would be to buy the Rally. Just my opinion. There are plenty of happy 600 Ryker owners and if the majority of his riding will be confined to city riding then a 600 would be fine but if he likes to twist the throttle, go for the Rally. Others may have better and different ideas
Which one for me?
:coffee: First off all the posts about 'the good, the bad and the best choice' make for excellent tips and good read.
Only your son can make the final decision.
As someone smarter than me once said, 'it's all about the excitement level that you son needs.
I only had the two choices in 2016. A RT or F3.
Today I would have three or more choices.
A Ryker, 600, 900 or 900 Rally.
Costs and capital are a very important factor.
I never got in debt with my bikes/Spyder. Hopefully
your son can make some of the repairs/services
for his bike. This is another big decision making deal.
I looked and read everything on the Spyder Lovers Forum.
I did my 'homework' for about 3 plus years and saved my money for the 'Big Day'.
Did you see my choice? A new 2016 RT Limited.
Good Luck with Your Mission. .....:thumbup:
Thanks for all the feedback. After talking to him and what his feelings are on the Indian he now has, I think my recommendation to him would be an F3.:D
Just do a testdrive, a Ryker or a spyder are two diffrent animals.
Me drove a ryker, and no offense to rykerryders, this was not what I was looking for, tried an rt, didn't like the seat position, then I drove the F3s, and I was sold, hook, line and sinker.
You'll know, what suits you best, is (test) driving all flavours
