• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

clunking at 55 mph from maybe transmission

I have a 2009 SE5 and at exactly 55 mph, there is a clunking sound and feeling that almost feels like a tourque converter clutch kicking in and out..Not sure if the SE5 even has one. Also once when slowing down, there was a loud clicking sound that sounded like a bubble gum card in bicycle spoke. The clicking only happened once app 20 mph slowing to a stop. The clunking did it all of the way back from Spyderfest which was about 130 miles.. Slower or faster,it did not clunk..

Drive train either rear wheel bearings or front pulley and or output shaft bearings better get it checked out.

I took my 2009 Se5 to the dealer today and the technician drove it for a vibration and clunking in 4th and 5th gear when accelerating at app 3700 rpm. he said it was normal to have vibrations.Said there was nothing to worry about. I am going to finish out the summer, then take it back for my 6,000 mile service. He mentioned belt tension and wheel bearings as something they have seen. Also, said BRP has changed belt tension specs 3 times.I came home and seen the thread for th RT's about an engine isolation strut rubbing the frame causing this same thing, but at a higher rpm on the RT..I am going to ask if this strut could be added to my SE5.

:dontknow:
I hope the dealer put it in writing. [nothing to worry about]

:agree: smells like front pulley to me :(
Try to roll the Spyder back and forth without the engine running to see if you can hear it.
Also: in 4th and 5th gear @ 3700 RPM?

The vibration you're feeling in 4th and 5th @ 3700 rpm is because you're basically lugging your engine... that is WAY too low of an RPM to be in 4th or 5th... 4,500+ ---- I usually am 5,000+++.

If you're still having that 'clunking' then you most certainly should NOT continue to ride it-- something is wrong and will only get worse. Hopefully it's just the rear bearings and not the front sprocket, shaft or engine bearings.

Have them tear the rear end down and replace all the bearings/seals-- put it back together under correct belt spec and see if the problem is gone. That is where I would start. They can check the front too.

Vibration is normal, clunking sounds are not. You may want to take it to another dealer for a second opinion. :dontknow:

I understand about lugging the engine, but if i drop below or above by just a couple hundred rpm, then it is smooth...and i would think bearings in the wheel would do it at higher speeds also, not just quit.People here are a lot more knowledgable than me on this bike,so I am defenitely going to talk to another dealer..This is some good stuff from you...i do appreciate it,and i will keep you posted.

I usually run my Spyder as follows:

0-20 first gear
25-35 second gear
40 - 55 third gear
55 - 70 4th gear
Above 70 5th gear

You might want to try that for a little while and see if the noise goes away completely for you. If not then I would definitely get it looked at. The vibration will have some spots in the RPM band where it is worse than others. If I am in 5th gear and drop to 4200 RPM it does not feel good at all on my Spyder and I quickly downshift to 4th.

I hope that helps at least a little.

I took your advice SPYDERWOLF and it has helped a lot. i also read another thread that kind of described the feeling as a rock grinding feeling. I have come to the conclusion that 2 dealers and others here saying it is normal that I am not going to worry about it unless it get worse or at least changes. Thanks to everyone!

I have to stick in my 2 cents worth. Best you get the "feel" of when you can or should shift gears. Looking at your dashboard while driving isn't always the safest way to go. On my SE5 the minimun shifting speed is aroung 3,500 rpm. But I never look, it just comes naturally. Arthur---Mexico City

Glad to hear it helped some. Hopefully it will stay that way.
