• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Checking Coolant Level

9 days into ownership I've got to the page in the handbook about checking the coolant level. So I've opened the front and found the panel to remove. Book says remove rivet. HOW. Do you twist, push, attack with a screwdriver or what. Won't do anything for me.

If it's anything like mine, that's a 'push-pin' rivet that needs the centre 'plug' to be lifted before you can pull the rest of the rivet bit out.

They do make special tools to do that if you want, not particularly expensive, & I'm sure someone will oblige with a link in due course, but I don't do it often enough to warrant that & just use an 'O' ring pick to lift the centre push pin via one of the depressions in the side, then use a small flat blade screwdriver to lift the outside/remainder of the rivet.

While you are checking the coolant in the overflow tank, bear in mind it doesn't NEED to be at the MAX level when it's cold, just anywhere at or over the LOW level (which may be a bit hard to see!) If you fill the overflow tank to the MAX level while the coolant/engine is cold, you will likely only dump all that extra out onto the road/into the nooks & crannies in the tupperware where it'll leak out later the next time the engine warms up & leave you with the level back down somewhere near LOW once it cools down next! That's exactly how it should work & is why you only need to check that the level is above the LOW mark whilst everything is cold!! :lecturef_smilie:

Good Luck!

I use a small screwdriver and carefully pry the center up. If you ever need more of these for any reason you can buy a bag of them from Value Accessories, a page sponsor for just a few bucks.

Once you get that cover off you will find the tank cap is difficult to grip. If you just want to check the level, use a flashlight. If you take it off, make sure you get it back on straight. Happy Father's day.

Managed to get the cover off and as you say not too easy to read but all done and put back together again. Fingers are not all that much injured. Will use a screwdriver next time.
