Check Your Front Radiator Fins and Oil Cooler for Debris!!!

While on my trip last week my coolant tank leaked. This is the second time this has happened to me. I guess the replacement I purchased was old stock. Big shout out for Steve at Pittbull Power Sports who had one and shipped it to Washington DC where I was stranded.

On my way back to NY Yesterday my 2008 GS was not running as cool as it should have been but no limp mode.

This morning I took off the radiator tuperware and I was quite surprised to find 80% of the front radiator fins clogged with debris.I had never seen this posted on this site before, perhaps I missed it. The honey comb protective screen also was clogged. I do normal riding, nothing off road.

I sprayed degreaser on and hosed the radiator off. The bike temp is now running perfect. Please see pictures.

As much as we don't like having bugs around: our Spyders probably like it even less!

I used screen in front of the radiator. Cleaning is much easier. I bought the screen at the local Ace Hardware.

The primary purpose of spiders is to eat bugs. They even make webs to catch them. I love my Spyder anyway, that is why I made a cheep air tool to clean the radiator and oil cooler. The tool is in my post.

Clean your radiators

It is also important to keep these radiators free of bugs as their secretions can aid accelerated corrosion from the outside.

Glad you found the problem with the temp was simply bugs...:yikes: easy enough to get that cleared up and keep an eye on it...:bowdown:

Do I remember reading in here that some Ryders carry a solution of water and hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle that dissolves the insect remains?

Can anyone offer the dilution ratio?

The grills are up front and you don't have to dig into the nether regions of the Spyder. I am very happy with mine. :bowdown:
