There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Check Transmission Warning Msg 09 SE5 RS

Hey Everybody,

I was out riding in a group today in the twisties North of Wilmington, NC and got an error Message that said: "Check Transmission." At this point everyone was way ahead of me and I didn't notice any response difference in the bike, so I pulled over and turned the bike off and then off again....

Everything was fine from then on. Has anyone had this happen before? :dontknow::dontknow:

Thanks,

Brian

tranny trouble???

Where on the gages would this show up anyway?? I have an 09 SE5 (red like yours) and so far if something like that showed up.... it did it and then went away and I didn't see it. No help here I guess but nice to know I should look for something, maybe kinda thing.:dontknow:

This warning msg showed up in place of the Speedo, similar to the warning banner when you first start the bike before you hit the mode key.

It happened to me...

A while back ago the same thing happened to my 09 SE5 (also red...).

I was coming back from a relatively short road trip and was winging it (110MPH) on a highway and all of a sudden the same message popped on the screen... :yikes:

I slowly let go of the throttle and started to cross lanes to go to the right shoulder.

When the tranny sensed that it was necessary to downshift to 4th gear, it did so smoothly..., and the message disappeared from the screen... :dontknow:

I continued at a slower pace until I reached a gas station further down the road.

Upon checking oil levels and after a light revision of everything I could think of, I started it again, and continued without a hitch until I reached home.

Never happened again... (virtual gremlins...?)

I may try to reproduce it again when and if I have the chance to ride it like I stole it... :D

Saludos, Pilo

Well at least I'm not the only one. This is the first time I've had this happen so far an it's definitely something new. The only mods I've done to the bike in terms of mechanically are related to the 2 Bros Aluminum Exhaust I had installed about 300 miles ago and the DPS CPU Recall.

How concerned should I be? Does this need to go into the dealer on Tuesday?
:chat::dontknow:

I wouldn't be too concerned unless it happens again. Could have been just a bad signal on the CanBus to the computer. Those things happen out of the blue occasionally. If it repeats, there may be a repairable cause like a bad GPS, otherwise it could be static or RFI interference with the signal, or a similar momentary glitch.

I have a 2009 SE5. It has coded a tranny signal and locked in gear 3 times. Took it to my trusty spyder mechnaic. Since it had coded, the computer could read the signal.....long story short, there is a secondary clutch plate that is not grounded properly from the factory. Sometimes causes the kind of problem you are having (and you will have it again, sorry). Easy fix with an addition of a second ground wire.

Happened to me too

Same thing happened to me on the 2010 RT-SE5 a couple months ago. I had just passed 2 semi trucks on the freeway at about 85 mph. As I was resuming driving speed, the check transmission light flashed. Scared the pee-diddle outta me. I got off the freeway, turned it off. Took care of business and started it up. . . . no codes.

I took it to the dealer who hooked it up to the computer and could find nothing. He called BRP and they called it a phantom code... a hiccup.... just a thing that happens when all the input coming into the computer doesn't hit in the right sequence so it reads something that does not compute.

In more than 20,000 miles (adding the RS & RT) it's the only time it's ever happened.

Why doesn't it go into LM if it detects a tranny code?

My 2008 SE went into LM for VSS> DPS after I passed a radio transmitter next to the highway. This happened 3 times at the same EXACT place but only on the lane nearest to the transmitter.

The Spyder is definitely a woman: its fickled.

:ani29:On the SE its the shifter or blilber, if check tran shows up after you shift, then its the shifting switch, will get worse over time and have to be replaced. Happens on the up shift most of the time, just hit again and warning will go away.I know of 4 that this has happened to.
