My deposit is going in the mail today for a new to me 2016 F3 Limited Edition. Triple Black with 2900 miles. Super nice guy owns it and just isn't riding it like he thought he would. Has some nice add-ons that he is including. The bad news is it's located in the mountains of NC with some of the most beautiful riding places around. and I'm going to pick her up next weekend........if I can wait that long.

I've been lurking on here and asking a few questions, shopped for a leftover 2016, priced out a few 2017's all while wasting ryding time, when this awesome deal popped up and the rest is history. From all I've read it needs a service at 3k miles. Should I ask him if he can get it done before I make my trek the 400 miles back home?

Re service, it will be fine mileage-wise to wait until you get it home, if you prefer. But if he could get it done, on your dime presumably, it could be a good idea and a reassurance.
Mind you, a service would be a good opportunity for you to get acquainted with your local service person...
If it was me, I'd get it done there if poss.

Super congratulations on the acquisition, the triple black is not for everyone, only the braver and adventurous! They are beautiful.

Regarding the Service, I guess that I would prefer to get that done when I get it home. When I bought mine, also as used, I took it straight to the dealer, after making the appointment, and had them Service it, check all systems and make recommendations for things needed. This way, I was confident of a Service timing interval and such.

Now, all of that being said, I would suggest that you make an inspection, before you drive off, to make sure that things are tight, that oil level is fine and it will be, but don't be afraid to let it idle for 15 minutes or so, since he did not Ryde it much and you need to get fluids moving.

Take your time, learning the Byke, don't get on the highway for at least 100 miles, make lots of stops and enjoy the new Ryde.

That depends. My dealer recommended first service at 600 miles (right after break-in), then it's 9,000 per oil change after that. If he did the 600 mile service you're golden.

Your dealer recommendation is incorrect according to Can-Am. It's 600 miles for the 998 engine, but 3000 for the 1330!

F3 oil change service/break in service is 3,000 miles and 9,400 miles later OR once a year. Many dealers are giving mis-information because they either don't know how to properly service OR they want your extra $350. The manual says break in is 350 miles or so--but that applies to gentle on the brakes and not over-revving the engine. Fluid and filter changes are at 3,000 miles on 1330 engines. Hope this clears the first oil change service up again. :thumbup:

I wouldn't worry over riding it another 400 miles. Before riding it home, just check the oil, the coolant, and have the proper PSI in the tires and go! I'd even be tempted to wait until your riding season is over and do the fluid changes then.

Just check everything first. I bought a pre-owned off a very nice person about 5 weeks ago and took his word that he checked everything for me and it was fine. I had some squirrely handling as I rode it the 145 miles home at 70 MPH. I chalked that up to my over correcting and not being familiar with the intricacies of a Spyder since I had never even sat on one prior to buying this one. After a while, I was still nervous and switched to a 45 MPH road for the rest of the way home. I When I got home I double checked everything and fount 10 PSI in both front tires, and 15 in the rear! I changed it to 20/front and 28/rear and it's MUCH better.

Congratulations! I agree with all others that changing your oil/filter there or back home is not an issue in terms of mileage. It's more do you want it done there, do you want to do it yourself, or do you want to use a local dealer/source and get to know them and build a relationship.
