• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Check Engine ; DPS Fail

Went out for a nice ryde yesterday, only to have it interrupted 3 times by the check engine light. I drive a 2012 RT SM5.

The first time it happened, check engine orange light comes on the screen. Never went into limp mode, but the gear indicator said E. That's never happened before. I didn't check for codes. I just thought it needed resetting, so I pulled over and let it reset.

All was fine for another 100 miles. Then the same thing happened, followed by Limp Mode. Pulled over again, and this time checked codes. What came up on the screen was 3 codes -- C0051 , U0122 , and C006C. I checked these with my Spyder app, but it doesn't do much good without knowing what to do to fix it. I let it reset, and continued on my way.

About 40 miles later, check engine orange screen comes on again. Tried to pull up codes, but nothing came up. Let it reset again, and continued on my way.

No problems the remainder of the ride home, about 75 miles.

My my plan is to take it in to the dealer to have it checked out.

Just curious if anyone has any comments or suggestions as to what might be going on.

The first and easiest check is to make sure the oil level is correct. Low oil can make the symptoms you mentioned pop up.

C0051: SAS Adaptive fault
This is a DPS thing... You might have a steering angle sensor going bad, the alignment to Zero may be off, or it initialized improperly

C006S:VSS Can Rate message. Communication in the CanBus isn't reliable.

U0122:Lost communication in CanBus ID. Damaged circuit wires or CanBus module.
Check for VCM fault

My guess is that you've got a loose wire screwing up the conversation between the systems...

Little checking..!!

when the dps is involved good starting place is electrical connections to battery and grounding to the frame. Not knowing if you had work done or did work recently there may be a problem there. Alignment without reseting with buds can be the vss error. Then again your having it checked is a good idea cause they will pick up all the stored codes you can not see....:gaah:

Thanks for the comments.

I had the inspection done 2 weeks ago. At the time, I had the battery checked. Dealer noticed battery cable connections were loose. Those got tightened. Surely they didn't mess with anything else.

Either way, I'll take it to the dealer later in the week to be hooked up to BUDDS.

UPDATE ----

Took the RT into the dealer today. Hooked it up to BUDS and found a faulty gear position sensor and steering sensor. Dealer said they could reset them, but no guarantee that it would fix the problem. Or he could replace them both. Since I purchased my BEST extended warranty, it was a no brainer. Parts were shipped today from BRP, and the dealer will complete the repairs tomorrow.

I hope that solves my problems. Going out on a long weekend trip to Pittsburgh next weekend. Really don't want to stop every 50 miles to reset the computer. 😀
