Center of rear tire and center of rear fender alignment question..

Although, I do not work in QC (quality control), many of my friends would tell you that's where I belong. I know, I'm sometimes too much of a perfectionist.

Some forum members have mentioned QC issues with their Spyders; panel fitment, airbox seal, etc,,,.

All that I have noticed on my Spyder is that from a direct rear view, the center of the rear fender is not lined up over the center line of the rear tire. This is easy to notice since the center of the fender is creased. Anyone else notice this on their Spyder. I looked at ZZ's (Tim), and his is centered, whereas mine is off by a little.

Mine is the same. I've never addressed it yet, though. Seems to me that the fenders would have to come apart and the braces bent to fix it, though.

HAHAH I refuse to go out and look at mine!!!!!! If i go outside right now after the day i have had it will be to leave some rubber on the pavement lol.....But you have already seen mine and the offset must be an SM thing since the SE i have doesn't seem to be off nearly as bad as yours

If I go out and check that, and it is off, it will probably drive me crazy, too. Then I'd be as loony as you, and we'd have to get group rates for our rubber rooms. No thanks! :D I'd rather not know. Now I'll have to close my eyes until I get along side the darned thing.

How far off are we talking here? From what ican see mine is perfect, but the rest of the known universe seems a little skewed.

:) Hey Scotty! My observation wasn't meant to make anybody loony. I just happened to notice it. When I spend $18,000+ on something, I want it as good as possible off the assembly line. That's fair, I think. There should be a fix for this; an adjustment, or replacement fender. If not, then we go on. But, I certainly think it is worth mentioning to the dealer. If it was a dirt bike, or ATV, I guess it would be no big deal.
Would anyone else notice? Probably not. But, it's not their Spyder. Yeah! I'm picky. :D

Yours might be lined up. ZZ's looked perfect, as well. The fender appears a bit angled; very slightly. It might be an 1/8" to 1/16" off center.

I was already loony, so that is certainly not your fault. :) Something about a grown man riding a tricycle... If I had noticed it, it would bug me, too. It doesn't seem right, since all this stuff is either made of metal or braced with metal. Makes you wonder how straight the frame is, if the holes were drilled properly, etc. Also makes you ponder the alignment of both the belt and the front end. If this is crooked, what else is. I still won't look closely at it, but there is nothing that stood out like a sore thumb on ours, or I would have noticed, I'm sure. Hope your dealer is understanding, and can make good on it somehow.

Not Meaning to hijack this thread but Greg did you ever call about your console not fitting properly after they installed the riser? Was just curious to know what thye had to say about it since mine didn't turn out that way when they installed my riser.

:) You do pose some interesting questions, Scotty. The Spyder rides great - seems to track just fine. Nothing unusual. It would seem to me, that maybe the fender, and it's supports, are maybe just tweaked a little. Visually, I can see nothing that indicates that. I don't know. But, I feel that if my dealer feels it is warranted, they will make it right, somehow. Again; it's one of those things that usually only the owner would ever notice. I tend to notice just about everything. And, yes; that trait can just about make you crazy at times. Lol! :)

Tim: The mechanic mentioned to me, as I said previously, that with the 1" Riser installed, the bar cover (console) sits up higher - separated from the lower half. And, you mentioned that it might be due to the fact that I had a clutch. However; no cables go through there. So, I don't know. I need to address that with him, and find out exactly why that is.

Ours has the riser, and the console is not separated from the lower half, as far as I can see. I think your dealer better check carefully.

Okay, so I am one of those compulsive folks. I went out and looked at my fender/tire positions. All is well and lined up nicely, thank you.

Second subject - the new gas gauge module for my Spyder arrived today. Hopefully, once installed, the gas gauge bars will behave themselves and stop jumping all over the place.

A couple of years ago, I bought a new Lexus 330 SUV. It was the most problematic auto I have ever owned. It never left me having to walk home, but it constantly had little piddling things go wrong. I finally gave up and sold it. My Spyder #600 is starting to gain the same reputation. We now refer to it as my 3 wheeled Lexus.

I keep hoping that each little glitch will be the end, but no joy yet.

Sorry to hear about your woes, Jack. Hopefully, your Spyder will be fixed real soon!

Never one to leave out the details, here's some photos... (maybe I'm seeing too much)

mine was off about like yours ... I put a rag over the struts , I lightly(I do mean lightly) kicked it with my foot and got into alignment ... problem solved !!!
