• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. CB Questions and Intercom confusion

I just installed our helmet headsets. A few thing are still unclear to me. We have the PTT switch also for the passenger. If we don't use the cable with the PTT but instead plug the headset directly into the bike should my wife be able to hear me through the intercom? She can hear the music. Also, when I press the PTT bultton or she presses it from the cable section with her PTT switch we can hear each other and talk. However, does that mean it is also transmitting over the CB? How do we transmit over the CB? How can we use the intercom without transmitting over the CB, if that is happening? We are receiving CB chatter now also. No directions on this. Help,

Thanks,

If you push the PTT switch you are transmitting on the CB. To use intercom only, you just need to speak. The VOX will automatically pick up the transmission. You may have to adjust your VOX setting in the setup menu.

Thank you so much, I will give that a try. I like that idea a whole lot better. I will play with the VOX setting. How are your other settings for audio?

Thanks,

Ted

No luck, I tried the Vox setting at both ends high and low but still no intercom. PTT does broadcast, but wife and I can talk then to each other, just not private and it is clogging the airways. Help...... Music is coming throught fine and cuts out when we push PTT.

Make sure the sensitivy (item 6) is set down low so it picks up your speech. I had a problem with it when it was set to high - lower is better when using this to communicate with the passenger

As said before, the sensitivity for the VOX needs to be low enough to trigger the system.
Also, the mic volume needs to be loud enough to be able to hear the other party.

The PTT button will trigger both the intercom and the CB, but if you have the CB turned off by turning the squelch all the way down, then the PTT will only operate the intercom.

I'm not a real big fan of the VOX only system. It becomes a difficult balance of adjusting the VOX sensitive enough to speak yet but if it's too sensitive ambient noise kicks out the tunes.
I find I need the sensitivity set a bit less sensitive which requires my passenger to speak a little bit louder than a normal tone of voice.

As always, my free advice comes with a double your money back guarantee.

More questions from a newbie. Is there a separate volume control for the intercom? Can the CB be turned off if one is tired listening other than cranking up the squelch?

Thanks in advance.

The intercom has a separate volume control. In the illustration above, it is No 5, the microphone icon slide bar. That would be raising the indicator bar.

Turning the squelch all the way up turns the CB off completely. That, lowering the height of the slide bar on the squelch control

CB Question

I had the same problem when I had the com system installed. Go to your mode setting and then scroll to com then go across to audio and set your audio VOX to the level you want to hear. Also to turn the CB offd turn your squelch all the way down and that turns it off. If you have external speakers make sure you turn them off or you will get a feedback through the headset. If audio and VOX is set correctly you do not need to use the PTT for intercom.

I am not using the CB just the intercom and the MP3 player on the Garmin 855, the following are my settings: bar 3 & 4 all the way down ( off ) bar 5 halfway up ( might be too loud for you ) bar 6 three ( 3 ) bars up, the setting on 6 will decide when the mic. is triggered.
