After several months of waiting and numerous pestering calls to the dealer, I was finally able to pick up my red SM5 yesterday. It has been difficult just lurking on the board, appreciating what others have been experiencing, but in my over 45 years of riding, I cannot recall experiencing such a rush....... except maybe my first ride.
The local dealers in Phoenix insisted on me financing their retirement plans with a single purchase, so I ended up going to Lake Havasu City, where I paid a much more reasonable price. My kudos go to Walt's Motorsports and my salesman, Shawn.
The 200 mile ride back to Phoenix was a great way to adjust to the Spyder and my only reservation was that I'm so used to riding to the right or left of a lane to keep out of the junk in the middle, that on several occasions I found my left front wheel crossing the center lane markings.
The comments from other motorists has already started, including a motorcycle cop who pulled up beside me at a traffic light. He asked if "that thing" had a speedometer......busted. I replied yes and he suggested that I pay closer attention to it.
Now my hope is to meet many of you on the road and at events. Ride safe
