• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Catalytic Converter Cooler

In my ongoing attempt to get rid of the fuel smell, I made a small air scoop to direct cooler air over the Cat. It was only 85 today, but no fuel smell.

under scoop 002.jpg

Sheet aluminum, a few pop rivets and attach with factory bolts at the rear of the frame. It hangs down about a half inch and is twelve inched wide. Mounting points are 4 1/2 inches apart.

I also added two square feet of Thermo Tec heat fabric to the gas tank.

if each and every one of your modifications helps only a little bit; you can't lose!

Gotta say..!!

We, and I stress we, may come up with solutions to the problems of heat. I just vented the bottom panels cause I still want protection and will see if it helps later on when it is hotter...20140508_113120.jpg But the air deflector to the cat should help your issues...:2thumbs:

Interesting idea. I wonder which heats the gas tank more, the cat or the pipes going down to it.

Idea

It is to bad some method of color coding the different temperatures is not at our finger tips like the Weather Channel uses to make storm and weather forecasting more interesting

i would swag it that wrapping both the exhaust pipes, insulating the tank and the air scoop probably contributed equally to the overall scope of the quest.

Did you note any decrease in exhaust pipe ringing or noise reductions??,

A friend has an RT hat put a heat shield on top of the catalytic converter and ducts air to keep his gas tank cool when moving. When stopped he has a windshield washer system from a car and a button that he pushes to spray water on the hot catalytic converter and pipes. He did it for when gets gas and stopped with the engine running. We both use Thermo-Tec 14620 60" X 36" Heat and Sound Suppressor on the gas tank and panels where we removed the BRP foam. I have a 2011 RS-S SE5 so I have a lot less heat problems then the newer models. That's IMHO.

I have a 2012 RTL and had the gas smell problem from day one. A friend has a 2012 RTS and never had the gas problem. The only different that we do is I always run premium gas and he always using regular gas. Also he always tops off the tank (fills the tank to the very top). My question is does premium gas burn hotter than regular gas?

Interesting.... I was looking over my bike and thought of something similar I plan to fabricate.
Bottom line we need to get air moving under the panels and around the tank, etc....
I truly believe this is where the problem is...
