Car rental question for someone that's travelled to Europe lately.

We'll be traveling to Spain shortly. I've been told that it's best to rent thru a rental agency in the country visited. Is that true or is it best to rent thru an agency in the States?

Not that I have...

But it would seem that if it is a major agency with locations world wide it would not make a difference. :dontknow:

For a trip to Italy and Greece last year we rented from one of the Big Ones, on line, and it was a piece of cake. As I recall it was Avis. I can't say if it was any more costly but the convenience was worth it.

Several years ago on a trip to the Isle of Man we rented from a British agency and didn't encounter much difficulty because we all spoke the same language (approximately), and their rates were a bit more favorable.
