There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can I use any 225/50R15 tire as the rear tire on my 2014 RT?

:welcome: The short answer... is yes; you can!
Any 225/50-15 tire will fit. ;)
 However...

Some dealers refuse to mount anything other than the OEN Kenda
Some tire outlet places will refuse to sell you an automotive tire, if you tell them that it'll be used on a Spyder.
Know your dealer, and be careful what you say to the outlet guys...
...and I'm now running a Kumho Ecsta AST on mine! :D

if you have a independent dealer near... try them if your spyder dealer won't mount your tire for you.. they prolly will do it cheaper than a spyder dealer..

What 225/50r15 tires have you found other than the Kuhmo's and BRP's stock tires?
go to our blog at www.usspyderryders.com and you will find an article showing about a dozen tires that one of our folks located as possible. I still like the Kumho Ecsta AST the best.. I have used three of them so far and they average around 30000 miles compared to 10,000 that I get on OEM

rear tire

I take my rear tire off remove the sprocket and center cone and take to the local tire shop and $10 later I have my new Kuhmo on the rim and disposed of the worn out carcass

Bob White is using a Yokohama, not sure of the size. I am using a Michelin Primacy in 215/60/15 size.

I am using the Yokohama S. Drive 205-55-15. Don't worry about the sizing of this as in the end the tire is about the same size diameter due to side wall height. And while the width difference looks like a lot, the difference is only 3/16th of an inch. Some report this helps with the center tire wear as it wont balloon as much.

Several of us are using this tire now and love it. It's got great grip compared to the Kuhmo. None of us yet have a lot of miles on it but seeing it's USA made and a Z speed rated tire, it should last a heck of a long time!

See this post about it.

For what its worth, here is what my dealer's service manager told me...

They will not mount a car tire on a Spyder. Said the beadings are different on a car tire, plus if you are in an accident your insurance may not cover you if they find out you're using a car tire.

No need to spray me with comments, I'm just the messenger!

About the RIM BEAD DIFFERENCE .....If the Spyder wheel Rims were similar to the Rims of a two wheel Motorcycle, I would agree with the dealer. However they are not. The BEAD on the RIM of the Spyder is different - it's effectively a car tire bead .....any difference is so slight it's effect is negligible, I even asked my TIRE guy about this and He said... they "look the same to me"........This issue has been dis-cussed on Spyderlovers quite a while ago.............Mike
