BRP to BRP: group ride to owner event in Maggie Valley June 2013

I know it's early and we have Spyderfest in between now and the official BRP owners event/ Lamont's BBQ, but they say half the fun is in the planning. Plus I have major cabin fever and it's going to snow here again at the weekend.


I started a new ride group BRP to BRP to start plaining East Coast ride down to Maggie Vally via the Blue Ridge Parkway.


This group is open to everyone, especially those that have ridden the BRP and can offer advice of best overlooks, eateries, places to stay over night etc.


Dates and times are all open for discussion the only goal is to be in Maggie Vally for the Thursday, Friday BRP event and then Ride Saturday to Lamont's BBQ.


Firist round of ideas is to leave Tuesday and ride part of the Blue Ridge Parkway, stop some where over night, then continue on to Maggie Vally via the BRP Wednesday.


I know otter28169 from East Pharsalia NY is on board, I'm coming from southern MA/RI border.


Blueknight911 and Deanna777 are going down but don't know their plans yet. We now have to see if we can pressure Randy, Bob, rnet and a bunch of others to join the group.


btw, even though I started the group I don't plan to lead as I have never ridden the BRP before, my only qualifications is that I have a gps and I can deal with any Dementor's along the way.

Absolutely Fantastic Idea,.....However Dee is still relatively new at the whole Spyder riding thing so our Best option is to take the Twin Spyder Hauler RV because we also plan to camp......Planning to arrive Maggie Valley on June 8, and do a week of riding the BEST darn roads I have ever been on in my life BAR NONE. I was at LaMont's BBQ this past Sept. and loved every second of it ......ANNNNNNNNNNNNNND #441 is going to fixed prior to the Owner's Event.... OMG IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS.....and Thanks for the invite ....Mike & Dee

I may not be able to lead the way, but I can certainly get the upstate NY riders to the BRP. If we get the info from someone in the know, we can set up the hotel we want to stop at. If we decide on a hotel, I will call and get us a good rate. I will also do a little research on the BRP myself and see what I can come up with. I am really excited about this and have talked with Venym (from Orchard Park, NY) about joining us.

If we can get a head count early enough, I might be able to get a block of rooms saving us even more money.

The good news is that the BRP is easy to ride and easy to follow. The bad news is that your GPS won't like it in the least. Even if you set a jillion waypoints, the GPS will try to avoid it at all costs...at least that's the way my Garmin Nuvi handled it. It was nice to leave the map displayed, though, so you could see what the road did ahead.

Keep in mind the speed limits on the BRP. It is 35 in some places and 45 in most. Nothing over 45mph, it is enforced. Also if you are going to make numerous stops to see the sights (highly recommended) you'll need to allow extra time. My wife and I rode the Blue ridge last year from Cherokee to the other end to Waynesboro Va. 460 miles. We allowed 3 days, of course we made a lot of stops to see as much as we could. I have been on the parkway many times as we live only an hour or so from Grandfather mountain. It is a beautiful ride unless it turns foggy/wet on you. If you are getting on it at the beginning in VA. you will be climbing in elevation more or less all the way. Lots of curves and ups and downs. The North Carloina area from Ashville on to Cherokee is the highest in elevation. One point is over 6,000 ft. I can give you some more info if you like. P.M.j or email if you like.

:agree: We took three days for the entire BRP/Skyline route, too. I would not want to do it in less. You can do the BRP by itself in two days if need be, but be sure to leave time to stop to see the attractions, shop, and just admire the view along the way...as well as allowing time if you are stuck behind a slow driver or a line of traffic, or have to wait for a bear to cross the road (we did).

I'd be glad to ride with you but ......... I'm going to have to wimp out. We'll be pulling the toy hauler with the Spyder in the back so it will be the interstate for us. :trike: One of the disadvantages of taking your hotel room with you. Took deliver of it in November and haven't had it out yet. We'll be missing the group ride from Maggie Valley to Lamonts as well. But we will have the Spyder when we get there. hyea:

I like the look of this place, lets hope they don't have a minimum stay in June, we need more riders to sign on board so we can get a head count and some rooms set a side.
