I've been using a Genuine Cool Ass seat cover that, in its latest generation of material is waterproof but the manufacturer told me he could not advertise it as such. I have used it in some real toad strangling rain and, yes, it is waterproof but since it is primarily designed to protect the seat from UV rays and keep it cool in the summer when there are no asses on it, the material is cut in a generic fashion and when on an RT it prevents access to the glove box unless the seat is raised. The gargage bag is a good emergency trick but I wanted something more permanent and that looked like it belonged on a quality bike.
Someone here on SL very recently said the Spyder seats had a plastic layer between the foam padding and the upholstery. If that was true, who needs a rain cover? So I sent
[email protected] a request to confirm the design and within 24 hours I received the following reply:
"Roadster seat foam outer surface is made of closed cell type meaning that water will not easily infiltrate in the seat foam. It does not act like a sponge but rather a high density material that doesn't allow water to fill up the air pockets. Seat stitching is not water-proof therefore the infiltration of water by the stitching is possible. Warranty does not cover seat replacement for water infiltration by the stitching. So we recommend you to place a water-proof cover over the seat."
The reply sent me to the BRP store where I got the PN shown in my first post. Like President Reagan used to say, "Trust but verify."
