Big Bend National Park - May 2016

I am giving some serious thought to a ride out to Big Bend National Park in early May.

I'm looking at leaving the San Antonio area on the morning of Saturday May 7th, overnight in Ozona, TX and arriving in Big Bend on the afternoon of Sunday May 8th.

Riding around the park on May 9th and 10th, then heading back towards San Antonio area on Wednesday May 11th, with another overnight stay in Ozona.

Anyone interested in joining?
Everyone would be responsible for locating and making their own hotel reservations.

I am looking at overnight at the Best Western Ozona Inn, in Ozona, TX for May 7th and May 11th, and checking out the Chisos Mining Company Motel near Big Bend. This is a very small motel, so I am going to be making my reservations for that one very soon.

I'm thinking that our rides on each day would start at the Chisos Mining Company Motel.

If you are seriously interested in joining, please let me know via e-mail.
Thanks!

proposed route to Big Bend:
The route would be a mix of hill country roads and I-10, departing from Boerne, TX.

I am not sure what your physical condition is but it's a pretty easy ride from SA to Big Bend and I wouldn't be surprised if you were able to make it all the way there in one day without feeling rushed.

I rode out to Red River NM this past September with a group of friends and it only took us less than 4 hours to ride from San Antonio to Ozuna. We had 10 bikes and 1 support vehicle in our group and we rode well below the speed limit... That stretch of interstate has posted speed limits between 70 and 85mph. Our group averaged around 72 -75 mph and we made it to Ozuna in under 4 hours... and that included a gas stop & short rest in Kerville

I'd like to ride with you but I have already planned my vacations for this year. My sister's family is coming down to San Antonio in March for spring break. Then a few months later I am going to try to ride to Kansas to see my son and grandchildren. And lastly, before year's end I'll also be riding to Big Bend with that same group of guys mentioned above.

Hopefully you will get some others to share Big Bend experience with

Been there several times and stayed at the lodge hotel in the park. Not very exiting place unless you are a history buff. The ride west along the Rio Grand is very historical. We also spent a night in Alpine TX. Not your typical tourist National Park. Missing all the fancy amenities. That was fine with me.

The Gage Hotel in Marathon is very interesting old historical hotel with an adjoining 5 star restaurant and bar. Would you believe! North of Alpine and Big Bend.

Fort Stockton north is a great RON with lot's of motorcycle activity.
