• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Better battery?

battery lays on the side

spyders are not the only critter, that the battery lay's on it's side, my harley v-rod does also, :gaah: & it lay's between the front fork, & the air-cleaner, which has to be removed, plus both velocity tubes for the carb. to remove//replace the battery, so about a one hour job!!:yikes:

Battery has been another project on my list of To-Do's.

Been thinking about getting some LIPOs from Ebay, stringing them together and getting some charging equipment. Though, I already have a couple $$ invested in my LIPOs from my helicopter that I don't use any more...I could probably just use those for the project.

Just no time to figure out what I could use for charging while the spyder is running. And of course there is the small fire risk... :/

It's been awhile, I should just google to see if they make LIPO motorcycle batteries now. I'm guessing they prob do.

Dude, too much thought for this...get a battery tender and be done!

Lithium Ion batteries are currently available, but I am not sure if they have one that will work on the Spyder yet. You may want to take a look at www.4xspower.com . I am thinking about talking to them about a secondary battery to power all of my LED lights, leaving the main Spyder battery for cranking and stock lighting only.

Is that battery likely to fit a 2010 RT also ?

When I selected Can-Am, 2010, the only option was Spyder Roadster, and the same 2 choices came up. I haven't looked at the RT spec to make sure, but I think it may use the same battery as the RS. You may want to send Lamont a PM, as I am sure he knows the definite answer.

Here is an interesting series of exhaustive comparison tests of five of the top rated motorcycle batteries, including the Scorpion, Motobatt, Odyssey, etc. They used a smaller battery, but the comparisons are still informative.

Thanks for the link. I will need to dig into it deeper when I have some more time. From what I read so far, it looks like the MBatt in their test would be a really good option, especially if I decided to use it just to run my LED lights.

Just curious; where are you going to mount the second battery?

Lamonster had a second battery on his Spyder quite a while ago.
I would also think you would need an isolator for the second battery.
So if one gos bad it won't take out the other.

That was exactly my thought.
Have the LIPOs running just the extras on the Spyder.
