• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BEST Warranty . . . . our first encounter

Spyder Cat

Well, Black Beauty (our 2010 RT-SE5 with almost 27,000 miles) sits in our garage and won't start. :(
This is the first time we've had to call on our BEST Warranty and we thought it would be good to record our experience for posterity.

Vaughn checked and the charge is good, it cranks and cranks, just won't fire. He put it on the battery charger, just to make sure. No change. :dontknow:

So, I call the BEST number that was programmed into my cell phone for the time that such a need should arise.
I am asked for my
name and membership number, etc. etc. but soon find out that they will not tow the Spyder anywhere unless the business is open. Of course, it is Sunday afternoon and our dealer won't be open until Tuesday. :gaah: :gaah: :gaah:

Thankfully, Lil Red (our 2010 RS with 11,000 miles) starts right up. So we quickly decide what we absolutely must have for our work week, grab the dog nojoke and head into the office.

Meanwhile, Black Beauty and the trailer with all our stuff in it, wait for the next leg of this adventure.

We're already having withdrawals......

Advice anyone?

We also have AAA and towing on Spyder's insurance policy.

Does anyone have experience, advice or input??? :dontknow:

Try holding the throttle wide open and crank for about 5-10 seconds. Then release throttle and try again. It's worth a try.

Best roadside assistance

I have Good Sam roadside assistance and it coveres any vehicle I drive. It covers any trailer I am pulling incluiding motorcycle and if on a m/c it is covered too. If interested the #800-234-3450 and I purchased the platinum . It was origionally researched because my AAA was mileage restricted and GS is not. The GS web doesn't explain in detail all of the benefits, call a salesman and be clear on all situations that you may find yourself in.

I know this is probably the first thing you checked, but is the kill switch in the correct position? I have driven myself crazy with that when a buddy clicked it off just to mess with me....

I also have a 2010 RT-S with a BEST extended warranty. The apparent policy of not towing a covered Spyder to a dealer unless they're open is absurd. I suspect most Spyder owners do the majority of their riding over the weekends and holidays. Having something happen to a Spyder in a garage is one thing, but having a major problem on the road on a weekend with most dealers closed on Mondays is a real pain. Under most towing policies, the towing company would hold the car on their lot to be delivered to the delership or body shop when they would be opened.

Did the fact that your Spyder was in your garage with a problem affect BEST's towing comment or did you understand that it didn't make a difference? If it didn't make a difference, then those of us with BEST warranty's need to explore options.

Didn't realize that a tow would only occur if the dealer is open...

That's not good.

That was my initial thought... what if I was riding out in the middle of no where on a Sunday afternoon . . . not a good thing.

Better to sit at home than have it sit at a closed dealers parking lot for two days:dontknow:

. granted, that's why the RT is still sitting where it was. but my thoughts are what about the 99% of the time when it isn't sitting in the garage..... we put on a lot of miles in isolated areas . . . . often without even so much as cell phone coverage . . . . .
what's a person to do then?.

that's a big part of my motive in posting this..... to draw out the experiences and feedback of others who may have been in this situation.

:agree: the person who answered the BEST line asked I was in a safe place....
She probably would have had another options if I'd answered YES.

Today I was too busy at work to pursue the fix, so Black Beauty is still sitting in the garage at home.

I guess my main motive was to explore this BEST Warranty thing because it seems to me that it's sold as a 'one size fits all' . . . you break down, they tow it to the dealer and everybody lives happily ever after. I have no intentions on trashing BRP, BEST, the dealer, or anybody, but sometimes things get over simplified and the consumer walks off with a misconception that everything is covered and everybody's gonna look out for your best interest . . . . I'm just thinking it's better to be aware and have a Plan B (and C and maybe D...)

So, one way or another, we'll get Black Beauty over to the dealer, and then we'll see what happens next.

Like I said, I'm just recording this for posterity. Maybe it'll help someone down the road.

I'm not sure what policy you have, but most policies I am familiar with prohibit this. If the towing company stores the vehicle prior to delivery to a dealership, they will normally charge a storage fee, and a second towing charge. The road service policy will pay for neither.

:agree: Been there , had that done, [with a suv] But the second tow ''was'' covered [AAA Plus]

Scotty--Agree, but that's still better than having it sit on the side of the road someplace. I'd deal with that cost knowing that the towing company would have the liability if something happened while it was stored on their property.

Update, Tuesday evening

Called BEST first thing this morning.
They called me back over an hour later to make arrangements;
told me i would have to pay all expenses up front
and they reimburse up to $200. . . . .

By that time, AAA already had a tow truck rolling.
They cover the entire tow.

So, I took off to meet the AAA tow truck driver.
Extremely courteous.
He suggested how to tie it down, then asked me if I had a preference.
I gave him the dealer's instructions to tie it down through the wheels.

Before you know it, I was watching the RT rolling down the driveway on the back of a big flatbed.

Now the wait begins.... :gaah:

Stranded on the road is a different matter, but at home in your driveway or garage, I would wait.
