• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Battery Terminal Question

Mr. White

I have searched, but not found, the "easiest" way to get to and tighten the battery terminals on BR1. I am not having any problem with starting, etc, but my Wing terminals have a habit of loosening some about every six months. I just feel I should check them. I don't know that the tech does at the oil changes. Which panel(s) need to be removed. Thanks.

There is no easy way that I know of. You pretty much have to pull the two top panels on the left side to get to it. :banghead:

TERMINALS

AFTER YOU FIND THEM....TAKE OUT THE BOLTS , CLEAN THE CONNECTIONS WITH ACETONE , SMEAR DI-ELECTRIC GREASE OVER IT , THEN PUT ON STAR WASHERS BEFORE YOU TIGHTEN EVERYTHING BACK UP ....THEY WILL PROBABLY NOT EVER LOOSEN BY THEMSELVES AGAIN....MIKE.....AND YOU SHOULD HAVE A TROUBLE FREE CONNECTION....

STAR WASHERS

I DIDN'T KNOW THEY MADE THEM FROM ALUM., EASY TO CHECK THOUGH .....TAKE ONE TO WEAR THEY HAVE MAGNETS ....AND SEE IF IT STICKS..!!.....MIKE....THANKS ..BOB

I don't like the use of star washers on battery terminals. They dig into the lead if placed next to the terminal, and still loosen in time. If placed between the bolt and the connector, they damage the plating on those parts, increasing the chances of corrosion and electrolysis. In addition, they add bare steel and zinc to the connection, greatly increasing the probabilty of electrolytic corrosion. They also increase the number of joints that moisture can wick into. In my experience, they have caused more trouble than they have cured. Tightening and cleaning the connections every few months or at every oil change or two works better for me.

I had them on the terminals for at least 3 years [SS] And never had to revist them, But thats not saying it can't happen. [corrosion] :dontknow:

CORROSION ON THE TERMINALS

I THINK USING THE DI-ELECTRIC GREASE PREVENTS THE CORROSION. I'D RATHER USE THE STAR WASHERS THAN CONSTANTLY TIGHTENING THE TERMINALS...IF YOU DO IT ENOUGH TIMES EVENTUALY SOMETHING IS GOING TO BREAK...IMHO....MIKE....
