There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. battery tender question

I have a 2014 RT limited that we were able to swap a fuse position so I could plug a cigarette lighter batter tender into the trunk area port to keep my battery charged.

i also have a 2020 RT Limited is there the same option available for that on this model????

just curious if anyone has done that on the newer models.

thx

FWIW, check your right side upper suspension. While picking up a friends 2021 RT the other day, the salesman showed him the factory installed battery minder connector. So his arrived factory equipped with no changes required.

i am thinking that is something that the dealer does not the factory....... i looked & didnt see anything my dealer isnt going to do anything over & above what's necessary. hahahah

Agreed, but I specifically asked if the dealer installed the wire pigtail and they said no.
Additionally, the pigtail end was not typical cheap type, this pigtail had a sealed connector setup, same style as oem Can Am, but with the correct configuration to fit the Battery Minder.

Read pg 145 of your operator's guide regarding fuses 6 and 7. Personally I prefer the fused battery tender pigtail connected directly to the battery. You can use that pigtail for an emergency compressor that would be risking overloading the wiring to the cigarette lighter socket in the trunk if you tried to use a compressor on that circuit.

I have a 2021 Sea to Sky, no factory or dealer installed pig tail. I got an inline fused one came with the battery tender and connected directly to the battery. Just ran the pig tail in the frunk, open the frunk and connect when parked/stored.

I need to rescind my statement of Can Am installing the charging pigtail on my friends 2021.

The salesman stated it had been installed by Can Am at the factory. While on the phone with another person at the dealership, I specifically asked, and he said that the dealership has been doing those pigtail installs for years.

Sorry for the misinformation, just found out late yesterday.

it's kind of mis leading or maybe i am just not understanding it.

Perhaps you are reading too much into the the listing for fuse # 6 and #7 and the note. The Spyder comes with only one 5 A fuse installed in the Fuse No. 6 or 7 slot. The owner must decide how he/she wants the DC (direct current) plug to be hot; does he/she want it hot only when the key is turned on (fuse in slot #6) or hot all the time (fuse in slot #7). For example, I don't remember which slot the fuse was originally in when I got the Spyder but I have a portable 12V light that I can use to see down into the trunk in the dark, but the light did not stay in the trunk receptacle all the time so I put the fuse in slot #7 so that I would not have to turn on the ignition switch if I just wanted to put the light into the receptacle to hunt for something. I just recently moved the fuse to slot #6 because I am using the receptacle to keep my phone charged to use the phone app on my GPS and I did not want to have the phone always charging, like when I stopped for lunch or sightseeing on a ride. Hope this helps.

My Spyder dealer ( East Coast Cycle Center-l Bensalem, Pa. ) installs the lead for the battery tender when they assemble the bike. It comes out the top of the battery plastic cover.
Seems to work fine. I might pull the cover off just to make sure it is not squashed.

i also installed the fused link ends to my battery, ran the cable out the positive side, then tywraped it.. if i had a black tywrap ,it would be hardly noticable..

I just purchased a new 2021 Sea to Sky and the dealer had already installed the fused pigtail to the battery. It hangs in the frunk. I have a battery tender junior which I plug into the connector in the frunk. I leave the frunk open when I return to the garage.

I specifically asked my dealer to install the pigtail I provided at the time of assembly. I doubt he would have installed one if I hadn't asked that he do so.
Ride too much... haven't had to use it yet....

Years ago while I was at a motorcycle dealership, I noticed that all of the new bikes had a charging pigtail hang out on the right side. I talked to a sales guy and he told me that they install those pigtails so they can charge the bikes while they in the showroom so the bikes are ready to go. That was for their own convenience, and we as customers can benefit from that. But that varies from dealer to dealer.

Cheers!

Aren't you just asking whether you have the same option in the newer models to move the fuse from f6 to f7 so you can have the electrical outlet in the trunk be always on?

I don't have the answer to that, but hopefully someone will respond to the question you asked rather than what your subject header implies.

Pete, I checked the wording in my op guide as well at in the 2020 guide and the wording is exactly the same. As I tried to convey in post #10, the guide does not specifically start the explanation by saying there is only one fuse installed in the Spyder for slots 6 or 7. If it did say that, the rest of the explanation is pretty clear that the user has to decide whether they want the receptacle keyed or hot all the time and the explanation would be more clear IMO. Either that the guide should say, "There can be only one fuse installed in slot 6 or 7; there cannot be a fuse in each slot."

So, it seems she can probably hook up the battery tender that way if she wants to. Thanks.
