• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Battery Replacement?

Questions

New member
I recently purchased a new battery for my RS and planned on installing myself. However when I opened my owners manual to page 100 it says " to only allow your Spyder dealer to replace". Am I missing something? Surely, I can swap out my battery, if I can find it....anyone??ImageUploadedByTapatalk1337290990.410995.jpg

They always want it brought to the dealer, mine was easy to change but I have a GS make sure all your connections are tight, negative off last when taking out on first when installing the new one. Good luck

I changed mine on my RS this afternoon and it took about 15 minutes. I changed it just because it was four years old and I want to get out on the road and not think about it. Of course I did not read my manual so I did not know that I should take it to my dealer. Shame on me.

You may want to reconsider the order in which you remove and replace battery cables. Neg. off first on last. Otherwise if the you remove the positive first and it makes contact with a ground it could become very exciting.

NOW A BATTERY

OK, OK.... SO WHICH WIRE IS TO BE REMOVED 1ST, the +RED+ or the -BLACK-...??? i've ALWAYS removed the 'GROUND' (BLACK -) 1st on all applications; cars, boats, planes, etc....

just had my WATER PUMP OIL LEAK fixed, and when i left the dealer, my BATTERY LIGHT started dancing on the dash... it 'flashes' at idle, but once i get over 2000 rpm's, it goes off... i have the trickler on it rite now but will be searching the wed for a replacement battery, since BPR wants $130 for one... any1 have ideas where to buy the replacement? how about BATTERIES PLUS...?

any other suggests that may help ease the pain of doing the replacement would be gr8'ly appreciated... thx in advance...

I was always taught that your negative cable is your make/break connection.
Removing: Negative first
Install: Negative last

I've used Batteries Plus, a few times mostly for ATV batteries, and one for my VTX1800.
That said , I use them, Not because their cheep ''they ain't'', or their batterys are better, It's because their covenant, And most times when you need a battery , you need it ''NOW'' and they always have the size i need.
Oh yea,
''Black first''

Ref which lead to remove 1st

I was taught to always remove the Neg - (Black lead) 1st and then the + (Red lead) 2nd

It was because if you are using a Spanner (wrench) or Screwdriver to remove the lead from the + Side
Should you accidently catch the frame you would have the same effect as placing the Spanner (wrench) or Screwdriver across the battery terminals - Not good news for you, The Spyder and the Battery
At least if the Neg - is removed 1st even if you accidently touch the Frame no harm is done

When reconnecting the battery this is the best way

The + Red Should be connected 1st again should accidential connection be made between the Spanner (wrench) or Screwdriver between the battery terminal and the frame no harm is done as the Neg - is not connected to the frame

When connecting the Neg - last no harm is done should you accidently come into contact between the battery terminal and the frame

Of course the above method is for vehicles with Neg earth chassis grounding

Neg. 1st

Always neg (black) then pos.(red) when removing. Pos. Then neg when installing. Otherwise sparks can fly and things get fried...although some english units did have pos ground very confusing. :lecturef_smilie:
