There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The Odyssey PC-680 battery in my 2000 BMW R1100RT was installed on July 19, 2004 just before I bought the bike. In less than a month it will be 6 years old. For the last year it has usually been on a Battery Tender when it was not being ridden but for the first 5 years of it's life I didn't even own a Battery Tender. It has failed to start the BMW only once after having sat unridden for probably 4 months in the winter time. It turned the engine over, but very slowly, so I put the 10 amp charger on it for about 30 minutes, started the bike, and it's been fine since.
I know I've said it before, but I am so impreseed with Odyssey motorcycle batteries that I'm gonna say it again. They are, without a doubt, the best motorcycle batteries I've ever used. The one in my Spyder RT cost about $125.00. That's maybe 50% more than most other brands but well worth the deifference in my opinion. And, no, I don't sell Odyssey's or have any other financial interest in them.
As far as other brands of batteries I've used, I agree with what others have said, they tend to last about 2 years without the use of a Battery Tender or other trickle charger to prolong their life.

It will largely depend on how much care the battery is given, I would think. If it stored properly over the winter months, if it is used regularly and not sitting for long periods without use, and if charged once in a while using a Battery Tender Jr. or similar.

Ditto....on Odyssey PC-680 battery, I replaced mine with this also,Orig Batt. was 2yrs old Starter motor load on batt. was causing check codes.Also replaced relays at same time...no more problem....freebob..:doorag:

:agree: Both dltang and myself are still using our original batteries (March 2008) without any special care. They've never been hooked up to a battery charger or needed to be.

Mine is almost 2 years old and I keep it hooked up to a battery tender plus all the time...
It will depend on a lot of things including your driving habits, temps in your area etc etc My dad has a truck that is 8 years old and has the original battery in it. its become a fun thing for him to see how long it will go. My jeep battery lasted 5. On my harleys I had one last 4 years and one was dead in two. I only use a tender in the winter when its is too cold to ride. I ride to work 20 miles each way at hwy speed and that is more than enough "tending" for a battery.

I am on battery #3 (just replaced it two weekends ago). I have sporadically had it on a trickle charger. I ride it year round.
My first battery went at about 8 or 9 months (my fault), the second one lasted for nearly 2 years and died on me during a ride up to Sacramento 2 weekends ago. I do a lot of idling in traffic and I have several accessories (heated seats, 12v power outlets, foglights, mudflap lights...), that has probably contributed to my battery not lasting as long as I would like it to... of course I am pretty happy about getting about 2 years out of the last one.
