• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Bad Motor?

I was getting alot of valve train noise from the engine yesterday. Since I am 90 miles from the dealer I pulled the tupperware I started it up and it was coming from the rear cylinder. I pulled off the valve cover and the timing chain was very loose. Looking further I noticed that the chain tension guide was broken off about an inch from the bottom. I pulled most of it right out. The rest of it is still attached in the bottom of the chain galley. To even pull the pin thats holding it you have to pull a good chunk of the motor apart. Then to get it out do you turn the motor upside down and shake it?:gaah::gaah:
Then what caused this. Something had to catch this guide or put alot of pressure on it to snap it off at the bottom. How many little pieces are floating around ready to plug something up?:dontknow:Its only a $17 piece but its going to be a very time consuming job to find out all thats wrong. Timing chain, gears, cams, valves??:gaah::gaah::gaah:
I have to call the dealer in the morning and get the ball rolling. Hopefully they can get at it right away. Almost 12000 miles and still under warranty.

What do you think caused this??:dontknow::dontknow::mad::mad:

brp had some of there atv 800 vtwin engines stretch the timing chain.
My guess it has the same setup.would like to know the real answer:yikes:

Got it up to the dealer yesterday afternoon. They will get on it monday and see what else is wrong. No warrenty problems.

Don't you just love dealer service departments. The parts are on order for my bike . Its just suppose to be a bad stretched chain and adjuster. The service people feel that my mods caused this. My mods are ALL COSMETIC!!!!! http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10013 How in the hell can that cause a stretched timing chain?:gaah:

They are going to still cover it under warrenty. Thats nice of them.:cus::cus::cus::cus::cus:

Probably the cup holder is the culprit.:D

Once they fix it I would highly recommend riding it like it was STOLEN to make sure all is okay--- if it fails again you have a better case to ask for a new engine.

AND IT JUST GETS BETTER AND BETTER.

The dealer called at 3pm tuesday and said that the engine was back together and they were installing it right then. I called in the morning at 9am (service starts at 7am) to ask how it was going. I was told he was hooking some things up and would start it soon. I called at 1pm and was told the same thing. I called again at 4.30 pm and was told the SAME THING. I asked what was going on and was told things were still being hooked up. I remarked that things were being hooked up for over 8 hours and they still hadn't started it. Seems a little strange to me I said. The guy said that "YOU KNOW WE ARE FIXING THIS UNDER WARRANTY DON"T YOU"
Well I figured out what was going on real quick. I then called the general manager and talked to him. He said that they had their best guy on it and he was working on it all day. He said that the shop was slow and some techs were layed off so there was plenty of help if it was needed. Me thinks he was blowing smoke up my back pipe.
No wonder some dealerships are closing with service like this. I could of hooked the stuff up and started it in less than 8 hours. The manager had the gall to say my mods were delaying the process. My COSMETIC mods. This dealership has can am ,ski doo, yamaha, arctic cat, honda, suzuki and kawasaki. This is no small dealership. If it takes their best tech over 8 hours to hook an engine up they have a BIG problem. Brp states that you can remove and replace an engine in a little over 4 hours. Now knowing how warranty hours are low balled from the manufacturer I can understand it would take longer. But not over double that JUST to hook it back up.
Watch out for these boys. I had trouble with them when the did my 6000 mile service and thought give them another chance. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10434

Enough is enough. Stay away from ENGELHARDT CENTER, Madison Wisc.
Any more work needed on my spyder will go to another dealer even though its even farther to go.
I'VE HAD IT WITH THEM.:gaah::gaah::gaah:
