• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Auto Tape for adhering to the Spyder body

What is the name brand of the tape that is used (two sided) like what is on the LED lights we buy? The one where you use the adhesion promoter - I think it is made by 3M. And where can you get this stuff?

I know I have had some choice names for it along the way but I am sure the manufacturers did not use the names I had for it :sour:

Just about all auto parts stores carry it in different widths it is 3 M double stick tape. Advance auto has it if you have one of those around.

Most companies use a double sided tape such as 3M VHB Tape. As previously mentioned, most auto supply places carry this sort of tape, in various widths and thicknesses. There are plenty of imitation tapes out there so make sure you pay the extra bucks to get the good stuff.

I find that these types of tape tend to work best if you treat the area with an Adhesive Promoter prior to mounting. Small pads coated with this AP are also available at the auto stores.

That might be true; but the folks that man the counters probably also know it by those very same names... :cus:  :roflblack:

Ya - it is also intelligent tape and wants to help you make up new names for it. One time I had everything lined up just right, set it, and it did not stick well at all. When I went to re-set it, I accidentally bumped it on the surface about 1" away from where I wanted it to be, and not only did it stick but it felt like it was alive and was pulling itself into place right there! Some choice names were coined right there on the spot! I wonder if my wife will notice that it is in the wrong place as it was a mod on HER machine where this happened (mine looks fine)?:doorag:

Kidding - Took every ounce of strength to break it free but got it moved in the right place and all is good now! I suspect a nuclear blast won't move it now.

Autozone had it - 3M molding tape. Recognized it immediately when I saw the red backer. Actually what set the hairs up on the back of my neck was as soon as I saw the red I remembered the first reason I call this the "Devil Tape" as once you get the first side attached, you can never get that backer up with the little fingernails I have left. Someone should put a tab side on this stuff so one can get a hold of that.

Thanks again for the help!

I use an exacto knife blade to pick off the backer. Works great!
