• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

We originally thought that the Vendor village in Hood park had wi-fi capability. When we checked it last week we discovered that there is no wi-fi signal to be had anywhere in the park.

Sorry if this creates a problem.

We'll try to accommodate any way we can. :doorag:

Ouch! I had really planned on internet access for taking PayPal and record keeping. I'm not set up to take credit cards and don't have time to do it. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

John

Worst case you could run over to McDonalds for your PayPal transactions. They have WiFi. You could offer free fies with each set of floorboards. :roflblack:

Thanks for the heads up.

Anybody looking to purchase Elka products will make their purchases through Cowtown since he is an official vendor. This way I dont need to worry about making transactions on site...but checking my e-mails would have been handy.

;)

I know there isn't a lot of time but all cell carriers offer MiFi and connect cards that plug into a laptop. Both give access to the Internet, PayPal, ect.. Most respective cell retail stores should have both in stock. I assume the vendors will have power on site. A downside to both is the are considered a new device, separate phone number, a minimum commitment, but have a 30 day return option.

Not sure I would want to go with squareup.com if I was a seller. Looks like they take a 2.75% surcharge on top of the credit surcharge. Pretty good hit on the profit margin.

John - most cell providers now have 3G/4G USB dongles for your laptop that allow internet access anywhere. I'd get one for your trips - probably pay for itself this summer….

If I am reading this correctly, there is just the one fee for use of Square Up. The funds go directly from the user's credit card to the merchants account, kind of like a direct paypal transfer via your phone. You are not using a separate credit card user program on top of the Square One so there are no other credit card fees. I may be wrong but that is the impression I get. I think this is a heck of a good program for mobile vendors. My dad sells credit card machines and services for a living and I am going to turn him onto this.

Also, after doing some reading, an individual could sign up for this as well and could accept credit card payments from friends or others as needed if they wanted to. Of course there is that fee but it isn't that bad really, less than an ATM transaction if you had to pay fees.

You are correct. I have the reader but I have yet to setup the account. My buddy that told me about it does use it and for him it works great.

I'll bring for you a Verizon MiFi 220 Mobile Hotspot, good for instant access on up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices.

If there is a decent cell signal MiFi's are fast.
I'll have my AT&T MiFi with me.
If needed, it could set it up and used as well.

So... if I hand my credit card to my waitress to pay for my dinner In reality someone could be scanning my card in a back room from their iPhone transferring funds to their account? If anyone can transfer funds from my credit card I may now be a little reluctant to hand over my card to just anyone. Hope there is some trackability to keep this from happening.

Can we confirm that there is good 3G all around the area?
I'll need to stay tethered to my office:sour:

I believe it is more than that. I haven't read the whole web site yet, but there is a place for the customer to enter his "signature" on the iphone. Whoever scanned your card would need that "signature" for it to be a valid transaction. Check out the site for yourself, if you aren't comfortable, no issues. For some though, it could be a real convenience.
