• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

As we all seem to be talking about exhausts at the moment...

Just want to clarify a few things as I must admit I've never paid much attention to them before.

Must admit in my teen years me and my mates just used to put on straight through exhausts on from various sources, stuff some chicken wire to slightly deaden the noise in and then rejet the carbs. One of the mates worked in the local garage so getting a warrant of fitness was never an issue. My girlfriend (now wife) said she could hear me leave home 5 miles away when I rode over to see her. Obviously this approach would not be suitable for the Spyder:-)

So after that ramble here's my questions:
  • Am I right in thinking that pre-2013 RS's have the CAT built into the exhaust while 2013 onwards have the CAT separate (roughly where the Y join is on a pre-2013)?
  • Do all aftermarket exhausts have packing that needs to be replaced regularly?
  • Why use packing when a system similar to the normal exhausts could be used?
  • Isn't the packing toxic when you remove it with all the crap from the exhaust gases?
  • Has anyone dyno'd the before and after when they have fitted a new exhaust on an RS (without making other mods)?

 I'm tired of hearing about exhaust systems...

Completely exhausted! :D :roflblack:

Sorry... I saw it, and couldn't help myself!

Nice ride! I am thinking it would take me a bit to get used to driving on the left.

New Zealand is one of my bucket list trips though.

It looked as if the camera was getting a bit of a "rocky ride"; was there a lot of wind buffeting going on?

Great ride, and GREAT music!! :2thumbs:

Some of roads around here are like riding on corrugated tin after all the recent earthquakes so it doesn't do much for the camera shake - I blame the road rather than my gaffer tape creation to keep the camera in place:-)

Unfortunately not all visitors remember which side of the road they should be on and people do tend to get entranced by the landscape and forget they are driving a potentially lethal vehicle. One of the girls at my daughters school, along with her friend and her friends mother, recently died because of the inattention of a foreign driver.

So after that ramble here's my questions:
  • Do all aftermarket exhausts have packing that needs to be replaced regularly?
Have Two Bros exhausts and yes they need to be repacked regularly. Can't say for any other pipes.

  • Isn't the packing toxic when you remove it with all the crap from the exhaust gases?
Haven't thought about that but when working with fiberglass wrap, we wear a surgical mask and rubber gloves so we don't inhale anything or get glass splinters in our fingers.

Hope this helps...

We lived in Australia for two years. Went skiing out of ChristChurch in July. Best skiing we ever did. Beautiful scenery, great people! Also learned not to feed the cute little Keas.

I understand very well about tourists driving on the wrong side of the road. A good clue for them is 'The driver is always next to the yellow line. Not in the gutter.' Feel so sorry for your daughter's friend and mother...

As to your questions..!!

you are correct about the cat converter.
Most of the pipes mentioned here do need repacking depending on your ryding style.
Follow the leader or the sound.
Not enough to do any damage to anyone if you remove and discard.
Some one here posted recently that he was going to and let us know...

Firstly thanks for the info Yazz and Chupaca.

Also learned not to feed the cute little Keas.

No need to they are normally dismantling and eating whatever you rode/drove into the mountains:-) They absolutely love the rubber trim around car windows, wiper blades etc. Favourite trick, remove all the rubber from the roof window of a camper van, remove plastic and then hop in and shred the furnishings, clothes etc.

For those who do not know what we're talking about, here's a Kea about to start lunch:
