• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone help with a diagram of a Rear brake caliper rebuild or hints/tips? Any kits?

The boot on the rear brake's outer piston was unattached, so I removed the caliper, and then while removing the piston with compressed air, it completely flew out! As a result, I found LOTS of pieces that came out with it. Also, I noted that there was a retainer ring deep inside that I am guessing held a spring at the bottom.

Anyway, to make a long story shorter, I have no idea how these parts go back in there, and I have been looking for a diagram of the internals of this caliper but cannot find anything; NOR can I find just an internal repair kit. Can anyone out there help me figure this out? Thank You in advance.

There are no service parts available for the Spyder calipers. Front or rear. They are only available as new assemblies. BRP has never had part numbers nor availability for individual parts or rebuild kits. Brembo builds them to spec for BRP and does not sell service parts for them either.

As jcthorne pointed out the only choice you have is caliper replacement. Found this out in 2014 when our RT rear caliper failed.

Sometimes that is cheaper and easier than trying to find a repair kit!! Not to mention some of these brake assemblies are pretty involved, and you do want them to work as they should when you put your foot down on them!

This sounds like another good reason to regularly do a brake fluid flush in order to give the master cylinders and calipers as long life as possible.

Glad you have a fix. Now I will tell you, from my years as an instructor for an automotive class, we don't even teach rebuilding of callipers anymore. The other instructor and I were both taught that back when we were brought into the business. Now the rule of thumb is to replace the component.

A: This takes the responsibility of the repair off you as a tech;
B: The time/parts to disassemble, clean, inspect, and test will be about same as installing a rebuilt/new unit;
C: If you spend all that time tearing it down and the unit is crap, you lost all that time.

As mentioned, regular servicing and bleeding of the system will help keep moisture out of the components.

I looked and looked and see everyone's replies and just ordered a new caliper. Thanks for your replies.

Your best move under the circumstances. One and done, in this case, will far outperform trial and error.

Which brings up the saying I've found to be very true throughout the years.

Experience Is What You Get When You Don't Get What You Want! And the one that goes with it. Experience Can Be Expensive!
