There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Any Bad Coils out there!

Has anybody had a bad coil on their 2009 SE5 Spyder?

I was driving down the highway and the bike is running good with no problems. I pull over in a rest area to put on rain gear, and when I start the bike it is not running very well, and does not have much power. The engine light is now on and the check engine readout is scrolling across the tach. I'm able to make it home and pull it apart to check things out. I find no juice coming out of the coil that runs to the front cylinder. So I'm amusing it is a bad coil or a bad computer box that controls the coil? Has any body had a similar problem?

Thanks Dennis

I had the exact same problem last year on my '08 SM5. I Checked the code (P0351) which pointed to #1 coil shorted to 12v or to ground. However once the dealer diagnosed it further, the coil checked out ok and the ECM was bad.
So make sure they check that the coil's ok instead of just changing it, and finding out later that it was the ECM, as I believe has happened to a few others.;)

Thank You

Thanks for the tip! I will make sure and tell the dealer about that!

Much appreciated!

Denny

Well I just got the bike back from the dealer! It is running good! the dealer had to order and replace the Electronic Computer Module. I had narrowed it down to that or the coil! Thanks for your help in this matter, it is greatly appreciated!

Is this what's wrong with mine?

My Spyder won't start. I can hear only a soft purring so something is engaging , turn it off, try again this time I get display lights, and engine light, Trys to turn over but can't . Turn it off. Try again and it starts, no message. All seems fine, but as soon as you turn it off, the problem starts all over again. Ken, could you see me sometime this week if I can get it to you? How are the love bugs up there? I have developed quite a taste for them.!

Check to see that all your relays are seated well.

You might want to check your ground connections? Usually when funny things happen with an electrical system, it turns out to be a bad ground type of problem! Good luck! Denny :sour:

BATTERY, gone bad? Sometimes a battery with a bad cell will act the same way It will read full charge, but can't handle a load.
