There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I'm looking to buy my first Spyder. I'm open to used RS models but have been told to buy new because maintenance cost could be pricey if it wasn't service or maintained properly. The price range for a used 2008-2010 RS is $9000-$11000. Any advice or suggestions?

Welcome! You should be able to get a nice used one, you just have to have a Can-Am tech check it out before you buy it. They can check it out on the computer as well to see if there are any codes or updates needed.

If you can afford new with the 1330 engine it is far less $ to maintain and you will enjoy the ride much better
the ft starts around 21, 000
the 990 v twin is great but can not compare with the 3 cylinder

There you go...!!

:agree: you buy this one your on your way to miles of smiles worry free...most of what you find here is like a pre-owned at a dealership...:ohyea:

i would just make sure whoever you buy it from has all the maintenance records for it. I just got my 08 on 1/1 and it had every record and only 17,000 miles for 7K and it runs great (guy was buying a slingshot), you just have to be patient to find a good one and make an an offer. I saw a lot at higher prices when i was looking but most of them were sitting and had been listed months or more so never hurts to throw those guys an offer.

My advice is:

1) be patient and do your homework when shopping for a Spyder.

2) stick to your budget -- don't sell the farm to buy a horse.

3) The best option for buying used is someone who has a clear title.. if that is not possible then know your state laws regarding transfer of title, bill of sale, etc. Some banks/credit unions will allow you to come with the seller and they will sign the title the same day you pay it off. if you have questions then call your DMV, bank, the sellers bank, etc.

4) Make sure you get what you want. You are the one that have to live with your decision and a Spyder is a very expensive decision.

5) SpyderLovers is a great resource --- I'm not trying to push you into buying from a member on the forum but you kind of get a free Carfax or should I say a free SpyderFax on the bike. I unintentionally brought mine from a SpyderLovers member and once I realized it was the same bike I went through all his post to see what issues or concerns the bike had in the past and the resolutions. So I was very comfortable with purchasing from him and I realized that I was an internet stalker....

6) Last but not least.. be safe out there while purchasing. Stick with your senses.. if it doesn't feel right, sound right, look right, smell right, or even taste right...lol, then walk away.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the advice. Thanks for encouraging patience! Got screwed on the first motorcycle I purchased 3 years ago and there she sits!! Definitely sticking to a budget!!

Oh, . . . I would add, buy it sooner rather than later. Why waste any more of your life going without a Spyder?

Good point! Plus you can usually get a little better deal during the winter months (well everywhere except here lol) than you do during the summer months just because there is more buyers during the summer. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Welcome to the club. I bought a used 2012 RT SM% and it has been great so far. Just have it checked out by a dealer. Once you get your Spyder, and you will, read the Do's and Do Nots. Great information on the bike. Also read your manual.

YOU READ YOUR MANUAL!:yikes::read: Your one of the few that said that :congrats:and you get :firstplace:.

RE: Reading the manual. Did most of that while waiting for the :spyder2: to arrive. Got the manual on line from BRP. It uses a lot of paper if you print if off. :roflblack::roflblack: Upside: I had each version pretty much figured out by the time I picked them up.

First of all :welcome:

If you can afford to buy a 2014RTS-SE6 low maintance, 1330 ACE triple Rotax engine, 6 speed transmission, higher torque, smoother ride, better efficiency, ECO Mode, 1200-W Alternator, less fill-ups, you can go thru town with out downshifting.:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn: Deanna

MY used 2008 GS

Hi New Spyder guy
Well you are in the same boat I was in 2and a half years ago, My wife said I was getting OLD and FEEBLE... yea right
and I should get something that will not tip over.... so I shopped around for a used trike I ended up buying a 2008 GS SE5
for $10,000 with under 6000mi. on it. Yes they are right the service costs are way higher than any motorcycle I have ever had
and I have had over 30, BRP and the dealers are thinking I guess that the Spyder is in a class with a Ferrari as far as service cost
so I would get a shop manual and do your own as far as general service, Oil, Filters, Tires and such and leave the rest to the dealer.
I now have well over 14000 miles on mine and have NEVER had any troubles, no codes, no limp modes nothing just riding fun.
I would not be in fear of a used one as long as you check it out and or have it checked out by a dealer.
Good luck in your quest and welcome to the Spyder Web.
Dave

Hi Dave,

I was about in the same boat so to speak. Except I decided on a budget limit of $10K; I found my '08 SE-5 with 4K miles for $9600 + ~ $600 to ship it to Oregon from Southern California. Been a satisfied rider ever since. And no problems so far ( fingers crossed for luck  )

PS) Since it is a rather rainy day here, I decided to install the ISCI brake lever extn.
