• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just for the Halibut...I thought I would try a couple tanks of "mid-grade" gas. Here, 88 octane compared to my usual 90.

The difference in price is 10 cents a gallon higher than regular (87) and premium is 20 cents a gallon higher than regular (87).

After two tanks of mid grade, no major change in my driving habits, and same driving area...the results...(drum roll)...

No change noted in performance or operation of the :spyder2:

My gas mileage went down by three MPG. From 39 to 36. :sour:

So...math whizzes...did I save any money??

I've had my Spyder almost 2 years now.

Never checked mileage before.

Dont have a clue what a STS gets :dontknow:

Have always used 93 octane. Will always use 93 octane.

I know mileage is important for some here, but for some of us just not important.

:D

Carry on.... Lol

This was posted for those who may be interested. Sorry to have wasted yours and John's time.

I didnt mean to sound mean or condescending , just stating that some just haven't checked MPG before. :D

Interesting. And that reminds me that I was going to buy some of that Sea Foam or some kind of fuel additive for the trip.

I might have missed it, but the total number of miles you have ridden matters. For my 12 RTS, the mileage improved after 5,000 miles.

I track the mileage and believe there is an improvement with higher grade gas. Bike has better response but cost more. I think if you don't fix the temp, then your mpg drops a bit has higher grade gas boils off at a lower temp. If you have high temps, you should stick with 87 grade

MPG VARIANCES

Guess how easy it is to put in 6 oz. less gas than your last fill-up......A couple tanks of gas isn't even marginally close to a SWAG ...IMHO.....10 TANKS MINIUM...........Then there are these factors ...terrain, temp, humidity, acceleration and deceleration frequency etc.etc.etc........it's really not definable.......Annnnnnnnnnnnd , if you lined up 10 identical 1330 RT's ----9 having 91 Octane and 1 having 87 Octane ....I'd bet a bet a lot of money there aren't many here who could identify which had the 87 octane......JMHO........Mike ......................Let the flaming begin :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

That is a good idea. If you are going North of Fairbanks or North of Glennallen, then, you may run into regular only, from interesting gas stations. My favorite was the above ground tank with the hose attached to a meter (Chitina).

We both know there is no true answer. Variations on the theme are pretty much infinite. I track it from time to time just for the Halibut. Does it matter to me? Not really.

It does give us something to talk about in :ani29: land though.

Going on 16,000 now with my 2014 RTS.

Thanks for the test!
How much DOES fuel cost? I think that we would need that information, in order to determine the savings... :D

Exactly what I was thinking as I read the post . . . you need to determine the cost per mile to see if you are saving or not . . .

Just checking to see how close you folks were reading the problem. :roflblack:

The current amount I paid for medium grade 88 octane that I paid was $3.38 per gallon. Premium going for ten cents more ($3.48) at 90% of stations--Shell is experimenting with 20 cent increments on steps. Did not go there. Shell raised their pricing again yesterday by five cents on everything.

$3.38 for mid grade/ $3.48 for premium.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaackkkkkkkkkkkkk! :roflblack:

Based on a 6 gallon tank, to go the same distance with the low grade fuel vs high grade (216 miles/tank vs 234 miles/tank), the low grade would cost an additional $1.09 more than the high grade.

36 mpg, and $3.38 per gallon
versus 39 mpg, and $3.48 pre gallon

IF you assume that you['ll be filling up with about 5 gallons...
That allows you to go 180 miles on the cheaper fuel, and 195 miles on the more expensive stuff.
15 extra miles, at 36 mpg will take .4166 gallons
$3.38 times .4166 equals $1,40 extra, for those fifteen miles
The difference between filling up with the cheap stuff, and the good stuff; 50 cents.
The cheap stuff costs 90 cents extra per tank

Using my lesser amount at each fill-up: :agree: with Wylie's numbers...
