• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Another Mileage Thread -- And a New Milestone for Me

Group ride today, 55 bikes (several spyders). I knew the distance would be right at the edge of my tank, but have been getting better than 30 mpg lately, so we decided it was doable. Just after hubby says, let's stop at Paul's before we head home, my low fuel light came on -- 142.5 miles so far. Distance to Paul's and back into town for gas is about 15 miles -- I say to hubby, go for it. Let me tell you, those last 5 miles to the station were a bit of a nail biter (but I think we could probably have made it home, just another 4). Anyway .... 158.8 miles and 5.05 gallons with mpg of 31.5. This is he most I have ever added to my tank, and also the longest distance I have traveled on a single tank. I am guessing I had a hair less than half a gallon left -- seem to recall 5.5 usable gallons.

So, even though the ride itself was to honor a fellow rider that lost his life December 2015 (m/c accident) ... it turned out to be a wonderful occasion with a couple of milestones.

RIP ... GT

All the best .... Ann

I can understand...

..the feeling -- mental gymnastics of attempting to figure out on the fly how much further to go prior to running out of fuel. I did that on my prior Spyders, but not much now on the 2014 --- 40+ MPG is a huge difference. Just wait until you get one of the later model bikes!! Oh -- tell hubby the fuel savings will pay for the new ride.

Keep enjoying your ride.

Don

I'm sorry to hear that you had to make the ride for that reason...
But I'm glad to hear that everything along the way was good!
:congrats: on the new mileage and economy numbers! :firstplace:

I frequently put 6.3 in a tank and once 6.5. That was pushing it pretty much but then I push hard. Not a Sunday ryder. I ryde quite a lot, 18,000 the past year and expect more trips this year. I have spent a lot of money upgrading the '14 RT with seat, shocks, bajaron, etc. No farkles. Just mechanics. I carry 2 liters of fuel in the trunk. So when the light for low fuel blinks, I know I have another 40 plus miles to go before I tank up. When the low fuel light goes on, I know there's about a gallon and a half left. When the bottom bar goes out I know pretty soon I'm going to have to put that spare fuel in the tank. I get at least 200 miles a tank with about a half gallon left over. I drive about 75 pretty steadily with cruise. I'd go faster but the tax collectors with guns will just tax me. Cops? No, tax collectors. Here's an interesting link for reading on the subject of 'speeding' from the National Motorists Association: https://www.motorists.org/press/montana-no-speed-limit-safety-paradox/ Whatever, enjoy your ryde today. Monday, I roll early to New Orleans for coffee and beignets. I use a Veskimo for the hot days. That would be tomorrow.
