• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Another ECO question

I have. 2014 RTL and I love it. I tried to use Eco mode on several rides with strange results. When I first start out the shift light comes on at around 2000 rpm. Later, with what I believe to be the same throttle positioning, the light comes on at around 3500 to 4000 rpm. I gave up on the gas mileage thing a while ago. I ride and enjoy. When the tank is low I buy gas. 'Nough said.

I also tried the ECO Mode, and found it to be of limited value.

I felt that by looking for the Green Upshift Arrow; my attention was diverted from the road in front of me... :yikes:

Another ECO mode non-user here. A nice feature for some. I found it to be distracting looking for the shift light.

I did run a full tank of gas through using ECO mode faithfully. This was in order to test the system. I found about 1.5 miles per gallon improvement over my usual.

Now, I prefer just to shift by sound and feel. For me, 3000 - 3500 rpms feels best. I did not like the lower rpm operation (2000 - 2500). I am content with the 39 - 41 mpg that I consistently get.

Eco mode varies depending on conditions

Eco Mode Assistant
Only when the vehicle speed and acceleration has stabilized for a certain time and the ECM judges there is enough engine torque available in the next gear to keep the same speed and torque request will the up shift indicator come on.
-1st to 2nd speed: 1800 RPM -2nd to 3rd speed: 1950 RPM -3rd and higher: 2200 RPM
During acceleration there will not be an indication to up shift –the ECM understands you are accelerating and will not recommend a shift at this time.
Basic information ECO Mode Assistent

I have seen some documentation that shows ECO changes the acceleration curve

It was a graphic someone on spyderlovers provided. For hard accels, I could tell a minor difference between ECO and non-ECO. But for the rest, I shift by ear. I have a 2014-RTS SM6.

Well..!!

I remember when they were just being introduced we met with one of the test ryders who mentioned (probably off the record) that the eco mode did very little and most of them just shut it off. Said it gave them points with the epa guys but that was about it...:dontknow:

I put about 3K on my new 2014 RTS in the 8 weeks I had it before winter showed up, and as was mentioned earlier in the thread, I only saw a difference of 1 mpg when using the ECO. I decided to leave it off and not worry about watching the arrow.

When I turn off ECO mode when the "spirited" mode strikes I can feel the engine come on the cams more when getting up around 6 grand whereas the ECO mode is more linear -- as I guess the graph shows.
