There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

We tried to repair it. Failed miserably! In this case, the factory needs as many warranty claims to redesign it. We found aligning the cover to be the hardest part. Swing angles and close tolerances make it a bear. That the design makes that point so weak is nuts! A simple solution is to mold that piece thicker, and cement the double nut in place with a drop of epoxy. Less than 3/16th of an inch is all that keeps it from breaking!

Yes...I had another thread on this yesterday - mine broke on 9-20-14
I really don't understand the design of mounting the hinge anchor area in plastic where it will flex and break over time as it cycles. The one the broke on mine is the left saddle bag that we open and close on every trip several times as that holds our drinks. The other side we seldom open due to it being rain gear only in there.
So...the one that broke is the one with the most cycles on it....BAD design. It will continue to fail. :banghead::banghead: It appears to be the front hinge that is breaking. I went to my other side and opened it...the back hinge looks solid, the front hinge is moving a little on the bike side....Oh oh....maybe another one going bad.......
NOT - a brilliant idea! BTW...SpyderAnne's broke in the exact same area as mine based on her pics! Thanks SpyderAnne for your quick response to my PM and your photos on this thread!
Here's my other thread ...wish me luck they cover it under warranty! However, it may happen again based on the design IMHO.
Hi all, had a great ride today! Stopped at a garden to watch the hummingbirds, butterflies, etc. (yes the wives were along...LOL). Also, starting to see some fall colors even though we were in southern MN.
This happened on our "new" 2014 RT Limited!
I opened my left rear cargo door, pulled out our soft sided bag with 2 diet cokes and 2 waters inside and set it on the rear cargo door lid when it was opened...I saw it move! WOW, it looks like my front hinge is broke. I had done this on my 2012 RT and my 2014 RT numerous times. Never any major weight placed there. We were just amazed at how fragle this is....I know it states no more than 15 pounds for carrying weight and this probably was a max of 5 lbs. It was not tossed on the opened door lid, just gently placed....ugh.
I would appreciate any input if you had this happen to you and ask about the warranty of something like this. Seems like a flaw to me that something would break so easily???
Our friends we were riding with have a 2005 Gold Wing....he just gave me static about my Spyder RT when that happened! He could not believe that would happen!

Oh, Oh, It's looking like "Valcourt, we have a problem." :roflblack: I am going to take a good long look at mine. The rig will soon be going to sleep until March, so at least there will be time to order the part(s).

Thanks to both posters for the heads up on this.
I wonder what happened that caused this failure on both of your units.
I've never had any hinge trouble on my 2010 RT with over 30K miles on it.
In any event, this looks like a good time to do a little preventive maintenance and reinforce the areas around the hings before mine break.
I'll have to decide whether to fabricate a metal backing plate, or just add more plastic to the piece, or maybe a combination of both.

My back ones look solid...seems like the front hinges are the ones breaking. I checked the other side that is not broken, and the back one looks solid, but the front one is moving a little -- oh no..................maybe another one breaking. I don't think it makes sense replacing these every 6 months for the life of the Spyder...........wow. Again, the one that broke is the one we use every time we ride and open/close it several times during day trips.

Thanks...I had a 2012 RT Limited before our 2014...no issues with that. I don't think they changed the design...however, I really don't know. It is a "terrible" design to rely on thin plastic to be the anchor for the hinges.....wow.
Good luck to you...hope I don't have to replace every 6 months or 10,000 miles whichever comes first! LOL :banghead::banghead:

Redesign Needed
Pardon me please, but BRP needs to redesign the saddlebags for future touring models. Side loading saddlebags that cannot hold much just doesn't make sense, especially poorly designed flimsy ones. On a vehicle that costs $25K to $30k new that's just totally unacceptable. What is needed is what motorcyclists all prefer, nice big roomy top loading saddlebags that are big enough for a helmet, a jacket or a rain suit. My Victory Cross Country has nice big saddlebags with top lids and are quick detachable with 1/4 turn Dzus fasteners which makes accessing the rear wheel & brake much easier. Victory has the Vision which unfortunately has similar small side loading saddlebags and that was a major reason I chose the Cross Country over it.

Not only is it a flimsy design but a pain to fix! I'll have a closer look at our 2012's to see if they are any different.
