In August, there will be an awesome ride to honor those lost on 9/11 and provide support to their families. The ride sponsored by America's 9/11 Foundation is held in August so as not to interfere with the families' personal activities held in September.
It is, by far, the largest event of its kind. This year, 2,996 bikes of all shapes and sizes (one for each person lost that tragic day) will meet at the memorial for United Flight 93 in Shanksville PA and will travel from there to the Pentagon in Arlington VA before heading to Ground Zero in NYC. There are various pre-ride staring points in Canada and across the East Coast.
The entire ride is police escorted by volunteers from across the nation and all roads are closed to vehicular traffic except for the riders. Firemen and volunteers will be at the pit stops to assist with fueling
Registration is $120 (an extra $10 was added to the original fee in order to hire overnight security for the bikes at each stop). There will be chartered buses ($80) for family members who choose not to ride. Registration does not cover evening meals, lodging, fuel, or event memorabilia.
Our motorcycle club (U.S. Military Vets) has the honor of being the Color Guard for the event and we couldn't be more thrilled.
